Jickovice is located near the Orlík Reservoir. Cycling connections and chapels from different periods complement the waterside landscape with clearly identifiable cultural and recreational interests. This means there are several aspects of the village to choose from when deciding where to go: water, cycling, architectural history and nature.

Waterside landscape and nature

The Jickovický potok flows through Jickovice and empties into the Orlík Reservoir south of the village. In its lower reaches, it is also called the Sobědražský potok. The two bodies of water provide different points of reference for orientation: the stream runs through the village, while the reservoir lies nearby. One describes the watercourse directly in Jickovice, the other the village’s location in the surrounding area.

Bachmač is a forest mire of the transitional-to-raised bog type, connected in a mosaic pattern with mire forest communities and home to tufted loosestrife (Lysimachia thyrsiflora). Two different aspects of nature come together here: a watercourse running through the village and a specific type of mire with a particular plant species named.

Cycling connections through Jickovice

Cycle route 1155 runs through Jickovice, from Orlík nad Vltavou to Kučeř, and connects Route 31 with cycle route 1154. Its endpoints and connections help put the route into context: they show its direction and how it fits into the cycle network. The described cycling tour “Kde domov můj” also passes through Jickovice and continues to the settlement of Varta, where there is a viewpoint overlooking Zvíkov. The two descriptions offer different points of reference: Route 1155 is defined by its endpoints and network connections, while the “Kde domov můj” tour is described by its continuation to Varta and the viewpoint.

Chapels and pilgrimage

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Jickovice was built in 1883–1884 and consecrated in 1890. The construction period and consecration date are two distinct dates that should be kept separate when considering its history. A Baroque chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary dates from the 18th century. It stands outside Jickovice, on the right-hand side of the road towards Strážka. The first chapel can be placed in context by its construction period and consecration; for the Baroque chapel, its period and location are the defining points of reference.

The pilgrimage in Jickovice takes place every year on the Sunday after 15 August. This recurring date provides a specific calendar reference alongside the historical construction details. If you would like to include the pilgrimage in your travel plans, determine the Sunday for the relevant year using this rule.

Varta and protected trees

The Varta viewpoint is situated on a rock above the Orlík Reservoir, a few metres from the red-marked hiking trail near Varta. From there, you can see Zvíkov Castle, which lies on the opposite bank of the river. The rock, the water and the castle give the viewpoint a distinct connection to the landscape. Its proximity to the marked trail helps with orientation, while the rocky setting and the view describe what makes the viewpoint notable.

The Jickovické lípy are a protected group of trees, first placed under protection on 3 October 2008. The date marks the start of their protection and gives the group its own historical context within the local nature theme.
