A written record from 1354 and two distinct chapel histories give Borečnice a cultural and historical dimension; alongside them, the 35-kilometre Sedláčkova Trail offers an opportunity to get around on foot and by bike. For planning a trip, local history and the route therefore provide different points of focus.

Chapels with their own histories

The village chapel in Borečnice is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1855 after the bell post previously in use had become rotten. The story of the building thus records a specific reason: a chapel, whose dedication still gives it its distinctive character, took the place of the damaged post.

A second thread leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was built of rubble stone in 1871 above the Tlučkův mlýn mill, modelled on the pilgrimage chapel in Lourdes. Its construction was prompted by the wish of the grandmother of the local miller Kubricht; the chapel was also consecrated in 1871. In 2012, residents and owners of holiday homes from Borečnice restored it. It was consecrated again on 1 May 2012. Its construction, original consecration and later restoration mark different stages in its history; the two chapels did not share the same origins.

From the earliest records to the history of the mills

Borečnice is documented in writing from 1354. At that time, Jakub of Borečnice served as vice-burgrave in Písek and administered the revenues there. On 14 March 1405, Mikuláš, known as Volyňský and the village’s owner at the time, transferred Borečnice, together with two mills, to the hospital in Písek, which had been founded by the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star.

Tlučkův, Sulanův mlýn was also first mentioned in writing in 1405. The mill is part of Borečnice’s history, but it no longer survives: it was demolished in connection with the construction of the Orlík Reservoir. Its former site was on the left bank of the Otava. Its history can therefore be traced through names, dates and its historical riverside location, rather than through a surviving mill building.

The Sedláčkova Trail and cycling connections

The Sedláčkova Trail, renewed with a different route alignment from 2006 onwards, is 35 kilometres long. It is designated as cycling route No. 1225 for mixed pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Its length and intended use make it easy to include this route as a distinct focus when planning a trip. It differs from local history, which is explored chiefly through individual buildings and historical dates.

The directions provided are also useful for navigation: the Sedláčkova Trail leads to Borečnice via cycling route 1158; cycling route CT1158 continues from Borečnice to Zlivice. The information shows Borečnice once as a destination on the Trail and once as the starting point for a continuation. This makes it possible to determine the direction of a bike ride from the route in question, without treating the two route descriptions as identical.

Plan a meal stop and accommodation

In Borečnice, Fešácká hospoda offers a place to eat with an outdoor area and a playground. If the outdoor area or playground is important for your visit, check in advance whether these facilities are available, as they may change. As an additional option, a meal stop fits into a plan that combines cultural history and outdoor activity, without itself being the main reason to choose the location.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which aspect of Borečnice you want to shape your stay. The chapels and the history of the mills offer a cultural and historical focus; the 35-kilometre Sedláčkova Trail and the directions to Borečnice and Zlivice put route planning in the foreground. This distinction makes choosing a destination more concrete: in one case, the focus is on architectural history and historical records; in the other, on a named route for pedestrians and cyclists.
