Velký Ratmírov combines specific historical reference points with activities on foot and by bike. The first written mention dates from 1420; when it comes to routes, direction and destination are key. You can therefore consider local history, bike tours and walks as distinct points of focus and plan your stay according to the kind of discovery that interests you.

History and Cultural Heritage

The first written mention of Velký Ratmírov dates from 1420. White glass was once produced below the village. The largest of several historical fires took place in 1908 and affected a total of 44 properties: 21 farmsteads, 22 houses and a chapel. These provide both an early written reference point and a precisely quantified event from a later period.

Another cultural and historical detail is the Boží muka, listed as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 20172/3-2368. They lie behind the railway keeper’s house, beyond the railway line and a level crossing, at the edge of the forest; carved inscriptions are among their features. If you would like to visit the Boží muka, check the access conditions before your visit, as they may change.

Landscape and Activities

In the Velký Ratmírov area, ponds and forests are classified as significant landscape features under Czech Act No. 114/1992 Sb. This classification identifies two distinct elements of the surroundings. These two landscape types offer a different perspective from local history and the cultural monument.

Cycling and Walking Routes

Two cycling routes take you from Velký Ratmírov in different directions. Cycle Route No. 1148 continues through the village to Studnice. The “Přes památky do pohádky” tour starts in Studnice, runs via Velký Ratmírov and ends at Svatá Barbora. Studnice is named as the destination on Cycle Route No. 1148 and as the starting point for the second tour. This difference in direction can help you choose. Check current route conditions before setting off.

A walking route runs from Jindřichův Hradec via Obora and Velký Ratmírov to the observation tower on Rýdův kopec and back to Jindřichův Hradec. Returning to the starting point sets this route apart from the two cycling tours: here, Jindřichův Hradec is both the start and the destination. Check seasonal conditions and trail markings before setting out.

The area around Velký Ratmírov is also suitable for walking trips; water sports are another option. This offers a choice of more open-ended activity ideas alongside a specific walking route. If you prefer to plan around an activity rather than a named endpoint, these options may answer a different question from the routes described above.

Access to the bathing area

When approaching from Děbolín, a road branches off to the left at the edge of the village to reach the bathing area; from there, you need to travel about 200 metres along an unpaved field track. As the track can become soft, it is recommended that you leave your car by the road or in the village. Check access conditions before travelling, as they may change.
