Hrutkov combines a clearly defined historic character with several named routes and a sports complex. The village heritage conservation area encompasses the municipality’s entire built-up area, except for the modern agricultural production complex. This means that the focus is not on a single monument: the village layout as a whole is also part of the protected townscape. If you are looking for accommodation in Hrutkov, you can plan your stay around its architectural heritage and the specifically described routes.

Village Layout and Neoclassical Buildings

The historic village layout was laid out on a strip-field plan around an irregularly oval village green about 250 metres long. The green gives the settlement a distinct centre around which it is arranged. Neoclassical style predominates in the historic village ensemble; most buildings date from the 1820s to the 1840s. Hrutkov can thus be viewed on two scales: the shape of the settlement and the period that shaped its predominant buildings. Both are part of the historic village ensemble’s character and complement the view of individual buildings.

The Chapel of St. Joseph

A notable building is the Neo-Gothic Chapel of St. Joseph, which became one of Hrutkov’s defining buildings in the 19th century. The central structure of the cemetery Chapel of St. Joseph is pentagonal on the outside and decagonal on the inside. Two different geometric forms thus meet in a single building. In addition to the chapel, the protected complex includes a mortuary and a cross, as well as an enclosure wall with a gate, a retaining wall and the designated plot. The monument’s description therefore covers both the chapel’s architecture and other elements of the ensemble. Together with the predominant Neoclassical buildings, it forms a distinct architectural facet of the village.

Named Routes Through the Region

For a walking itinerary, the route “Z Kaprouna do Jindřichova Hradce” (“From Kaproun to Jindřichův Hradec”) passes through Česká Kanada: from Kaproun via Kunějov and Kačlehy, through Hrutkov and on to Jindřichův Hradec. Hrutkov lies between the named places along this route. The Jindrova stezka follows a different sequence: it runs from Jindřichův Hradec via Jindřiš, Malý Ratmírov, Vlčice, Střížovice, Lomy, Kunějov, Kačlehy, Hrutkov and Otín, and returns to Jindřichův Hradec. Another route description starts in Malý Ratmírov and leads via Blažejov, Hospříz, Hrutkov, Horní Pěna, Dolní Pěna and Horní Žďár to Jindřichův Hradec. The routes are primarily distinguished by their starting and ending points: the walking route starts in Kaproun, the Jindrova stezka returns to Jindřichův Hradec, and the other route starts in Malý Ratmírov. You can first consider which of the named places best suits your plans, then look at the corresponding route.

Activities at Sportovní areál Hrutkov

Sportovní areál Hrutkov has a wake park with a two-tower cable tow and qualified instructors. The facility also includes a beach volleyball court, and fishing is possible there too. Seasonality may affect these visitor activities, so it is advisable to check that your chosen activity is available before visiting. This lets you plan your stay around a specific sporting activity, in addition to the architectural heritage and named routes.
