Kamenná offers specific ways to combine hiking and culture on a trip: an educational trail, a viewpoint and cultural attractions in the settlement of Kondrač and the nearby area. The Staročeská koleda, held regularly during the carnival season, is also part of the picture. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether the trail, the landscape views or culture will be the main focus of your stay.

Educational Trail, Viewpoint and Routes

The six-kilometre Krajinou humanity educational trail passes through varied terrain in the countryside around Chvalkov, Kamenná, Kondrač and Slavče. Seven information boards introduce seven prominent humanists from around the world. This makes the trail a combination of landscape and a specific cultural theme.

At 682 metres, Kondračská hora is one of the educational trail’s viewpoints. In favourable weather, you can see the České Budějovice Basin, the Třeboň Basin and the Novohradské Mountains from there. This combination is useful for planning a trip if you would like to include a cultural theme as well as the landscape on a hike.

For route planning, it is also worth distinguishing between two KČT routes. Route 1128 follows road III/1546 from Chvalkov to Kamenná; Route 1191 follows the same road from Kamenná to Rychnov u Nových Hradů. Their different endpoints make it easier to compare the two routes. Check the local signs before setting out.

Cultural Attractions and the Carnival Season

The settlement of Kondrač, which belongs to the municipality of Kamenná, is home to the Church of the Holy Trinity (kostel Nejsvětější Trojice), considered an important cultural monument. Most of its furnishings are Neo-Gothic and date from 1866 to 1868; the church was fully reconstructed in 1998. Its historical context therefore includes both the date of the furnishings and the later reconstruction.

The Staročeská koleda is held regularly in Kamenná during the carnival season. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, check the date for the year in question in advance. This will help you schedule your stay to coincide with the seasonal event.

Near Kamenná, on the eastern side of Kamenská hora, stands the Zaječí pramen Chapel, built in the South Bohemian Peasant Baroque style. The route there starts in Žumberk; before Kamenná, it branches off from the blue-marked trail. As route conditions and markings can change, check the route before setting out. The church in Kondrač and the nearby chapel offer different local connections for those interested in culture.
