Petříkov brings together landscape, natural history and local history on different scales. Forests and ponds define the area, which the Stropnice River flows through. The Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area extends into the district of Jiříkovo Údolí; the Červené blato Nature Reserve is also located there. Těšínov adds old farmsteads and cottages to the area’s local history. If you are looking for accommodation, you can decide whether the natural landscape and educational trail, settlement history or the timing of the Mass should shape your stay most.

Forests, Ponds and Moorland

Petříkov lies among forests and ponds; the Stropnice River flows through the area. The Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area extends into the district of Jiříkovo Údolí; the Červené blato Nature Reserve, with an educational trail, is also located there.

The nature reserve is home to natural forest communities, especially bog pine and peat-bog pine forests. It also contains communities of open raised bogs and populations of rare and endangered plant species, including bog pine (Pinus rotundata) and marsh Labrador tea (Ledum palustre). Those interested in the reserve’s natural environment can consider habitat types and individual species separately.

The nature reserve can only be accessed via its educational trail, which was established in 1983. Check the latest access information before visiting.

Glassworks, Farmsteads and Chapel

The old glassworks in Jiříkovo Údolí has a distinct place in local history: during the 1920s and 1930s, it was open to the public and a popular destination for school trips, as well as for adult tourists from across Bohemia and abroad.

Těšínov is a settlement in the municipality of Petříkov. Old farmsteads and cottages are situated there, mostly on one side of a road that was once an important route from Třeboň to Nové Hrady. The road’s former importance and the one-sided development are two aspects of the settlement’s character: the significance of the route and the predominant arrangement of the houses. Rural farmstead No. 22 in Těšínov is a protected cultural monument. A broadly described rural building type thus stands alongside a specifically named monument. The chapel adds a religious dimension to the area’s rural architecture.

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is in Petříkov; Mass is held there every Thursday at 6 p.m. If you plan your visit around it, check the time again beforehand.

Getting There and Cycling Route

Petříkov has a České dráhy railway station. Check separately which train connections suit your travel date.

The “Cestou dobrých vod na Borovansku” cycling route passes through Petříkov. If you include it in your plans, check the latest route information before setting off. These are two different points to consider when planning: train connections for rail travel and the route itself for cycling.
