The Dívčické rybníky give Dívčice a distinctive natural theme: they are designated as a regional biocentre covering an area of 62.59 hectares. The history of the Zbudovské Blata also offers a way to explore the region’s cultural landscape—from former wetlands to land uses that have changed over centuries.

Ponds and the Blata Landscape

The biocentre comprises a mosaic of paths, small meadows, and woodland areas, supporting a wide variety of plant and animal communities. Water is only one part of the landscape: the open structure of meadows and woodland also belongs to this natural area.

The Blatec, Březovec, Nová, and Černá ponds lie in the immediate vicinity of Dívčice. The water bodies in the Blata are preferred nesting sites for waterbirds. Nature enthusiasts can therefore focus on both the ponds and the biocentre’s diverse habitats.

After the area was settled in the 11th century, the former wetlands of the Zbudovské Blata were gradually transformed into pastures, fields, and ponds. The Dívčicko area forms a key part of the historic Zbudovské Blata. This development places today’s landscape within a long history of land use.

Historical Traces and the Kubata Monument

The historical so-called Dívčice estate included two fortresses built by the Lords of Sudoměř from the end of the 14th century onward. The recorded history thus reaches back to a time when the region’s estates were taking shape.

The Kubata Monument was erected in 1904. It is located beyond the village, near Zbudov railway station. A local tradition connects two stones on the other side of a stream with a legend about an execution.

Farmhouse Heritage in Zbudov

In Zbudov, the traditional farmsteads have retained a relatively high degree of their historic character. The Zbudov heritage zone protects 19th-century Blata-type farmsteads. These include houses No. 1, 3, 4, 23, 25, 26, and 27. The protected buildings make a specific regional architectural style visible in particular houses.

The village square is home to the former blacksmith’s workshop, No. 28, and the former mill complex, No. 9. Both buildings are documented as former establishments; their previous functions are therefore part of the village’s architectural history.

Plan Routes and Your Journey

The “Za památkami a přírodou Zbudovských Blat” (“Exploring the Heritage and Nature of the Zbudovské Blata”) circular route is very easy and suitable for families. A marked cycling route leads to the Kubata Monument. If you are planning a cycling trip, check the current route before setting out.

Dívčice railway station lies at the junction of the main České Budějovice–Plzeň line and the branch line to Netolice. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel date. The Kubata Monument’s location near Zbudov railway station is another point of reference; it should be distinguished from the train connection from Dívčice.
