Frauenberg (Hluboká nad Vltavou) can be explored through several distinct themes: castle history, collections, animal worlds and routes along the Vltava. When planning your visit, the key question is whether you want to combine culture in historic interiors, outdoor activities or things to do for different interests. The options range from a romantic castle complex to a short themed trail, as well as sections of a cycle path with two named destinations.

Castle history and collections

Státní zámek Hluboká nad Vltavou is a significant romantic complex in the European and global context. Its character is defined by its scale, preserved original furnishings and extensive park. If you want to focus on cultural heritage during your stay, you can discover several facets in one place: the castle complex, its original interiors and the park.

Národní zemědělské muzeum Ohrada also combines a long history with a diverse range of exhibition themes. It is considered Europe’s oldest hunting museum. The first collections of hunting trophies and animal specimens were displayed in 1842 in the Baroque Ohrada Chateau. Today, the exhibitions cover topics including hunting and fishing, freshwater aquariums, the Sallač collection of antlers and falconry. The hunting chateau’s impressive interiors are also part of the museum experience.

Alšova jihočeská galerie (AJG) offers a different cultural focus: it is the only art museum in Jihočeský kraj. This means that, alongside hunting and natural history, you can also explore art in Frauenberg.

Animal worlds and activities

Hluboká Zoo covers just under five hectares. More than 15 unique enclosures and exhibitions introduce animals from different regions and their habitats. The range of enclosures and exhibitions may change.

For active pursuits, Adrenalin Park offers a climbing centre with 23 obstacles at a height of eight metres. Adventure minigolf offers a different kind of activity: the 18 holes have varying levels of difficulty, the rules are simple, and the game is family-friendly, including for young children. Park Hluboká also offers a diverse range of activities for families with children, groups of friends and corporate teams.

At Farma Stará Obora, group gatherings are organised at Seník, where visitors can get to know the animals up close.

On foot or by bike

Vltavská pěší stezka is a short, easy circular trail in a bend of the Vltava. Its 17 stops introduce the local nature and culture. This makes the trail a destination in its own right: rather than individual exhibitions, nature and culture stops accompany you around the route. Park Hluboká is also located on the Vltava and offers views of Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle.

Two sections of Vltavská cyklostezka are named for cycling route planning: Hluboká nad Vltavou–České Budějovice and Hluboká nad Vltavou–Purkarec. They differ in their respective endpoints. You can choose according to your preferred direction, while the walking loop focuses on nature and culture along its 17 stops.
