Lišov combines a clearly dated cultural heritage with a marked hiking trail, a cycling route and a summer swimming spot. The Schwarzenberský špitál brings together a museum, gallery and event spaces; nearby, the Kostel sv. Václava church, Locus perennis and the Rybník Koníř pond offer other specific points of interest. To plan your visit, it is worth choosing first between culture, outdoor activities and a seasonal event: each has a different historical, physical and seasonal focus.

Cultural history in Lišov

Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg founded the Schwarzenberský špitál on September 2, 1676. The building served retired employees of the princely house. Today, the F. M. Čapek Museum is located in the right wing; the Jana Rafael Schuster Gallery and spaces for exhibitions, cultural events, lectures and educational activities are also housed in the building. The František Miroslav Čapek Museum presents traditional crafts from Lišov, including carpentry, shoemaking, rope-making and joinery. The focus here is therefore on both local craft traditions and visual art and public cultural events.

The Kostel sv. Václava church is Neo-Romanesque and dates from 1862 to 1865. Bishop J. V. Jirsík consecrated it in 1864. It is open year-round and can be visited free of charge; check local information before planning a specific visit. Another dated stop is the Panny Marie Lourdské Chapel: it is near the Rybník Koníř pond, along the path leading to it, and was consecrated on July 5, 1896. Visitors to the pond will also find a historical point of interest along the way.

Hiking, cycling and swimming

The marked 12-kilometer “Putování krajem malíře J. R. Schustera na Locus perennis” hiking trail passes through Lišov. Locus perennis is the only one of the original nine fundamental surveying points in Austria-Hungary. The trail’s name thus connects the hike with a specific aspect of technical history. There is a parking area a few meters from the main road for visits to Locus perennis. Follow the signs when driving there and observe the applicable parking rules.

The Lišov cycling route starts at a parking area near the Coop in Lišov and has a moderate physical difficulty level. This gives you two different ways to compare the routes: the hiking trail’s length is specified, while the cycling route’s physical difficulty level is given. The Rybník Koníř pond in Lišov is used for swimming in summer and can be reached from Lišov by a paved road. Unlike the church, which is open year-round, swimming there is a seasonal activity.

Festivals and seasonal events

The Lišovské slavnosti festival takes place every year on the second weekend in September; the Adventní odpoledne is held annually on the first Sunday of Advent. These events offer an occasion to visit in late summer or before Christmas. Check the program before setting off if you would like to plan your stay around an event.

There is also a recurring event in Lišov’s local area: three to four sailing competitions of national or regional significance take place every year at the Dvořiště pond. Check the specific dates and participation requirements for these competitions before your trip. The local festivals therefore differ from the sailing competitions in the wider area both in terms of the occasion and the location.
