Strobnitz offers different ways to enjoy a stay: a themed cycling route, a church building with Romanesque and Baroque elements, and camping on the swimming pool grounds. Depending on your interests, you can explore the town through cycling, architectural history or a specific type of accommodation.
Cycling the Via Verde
Horní Stropnice is the eighth stop and the destination of the Via Verde, which begins in Moorbad Harbach, Austria. The cycle path features activity stations and explores the theme of physical and mental boundaries. This means the route combines a bike ride with a clearly defined central theme. If cycling is your main focus, you can think of Strobnitz as the destination of a specific route; if you are particularly interested in the theme of boundaries, you will find it reflected in the activity stations. Both are part of the Via Verde’s character: the route as a cycling trail and the thematic exploration that accompanies it.
Romanesque tower and Baroque interior
The church “Kostel sv. Mikuláše” cannot be reduced to a single architectural style. A surviving Romanesque tower stands between the presbytery and the three-aisled nave, while the interior is predominantly Baroque. The presbytery is the sanctuary, so the tower is positioned between this area and the nave. Both the tower’s precise position and its contrast with the Baroque interior are important to appreciating the architecture. Rather than assigning the building to just one period, visitors can consider two distinct architectural features side by side.
Sýpka: museum themes and a wood-fired oven
The Muzeum Novohradských hor was established in the restored Sýpka in 2015. The exhibition presents the nature, history and people of the Novohradsko region. This focuses on regional themes, while the church, with its tower and interior, offers a specific building to explore. Visitors can also bake their own bread rolls in a wood-fired oven at the Sýpka. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check in advance whether it is available on your chosen date.
Swimming pool and camping
The swimming pool in Horní Stropnice has a separate children’s pool. Camping is available on the swimming pool grounds. This means swimming and an accommodation option are available at the same location.
Getting there and finding your way around
Horní Stropnice has a bus station. If you plan to travel by bus, check the appropriate timetable for your travel dates. The municipal library is located in the municipal office building, is open year-round and offers internet access. This access can be useful if you want to look up information online during your trip.
The highlights suit different travel preferences: the Via Verde is ideal for a cycling-focused trip, the church offers a specific point of interest for architecture enthusiasts, and the swimming pool combines swimming with camping. The museum themes and baking at the Sýpka offer further distinctive experiences. You can choose Strobnitz based on which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay.
