Zbudov is the village that gave the historic landscape of Zbudovská Blata its name. The village square, protected Blata farmsteads and cycling routes offer different ways to explore: in the village centre, the focus is on historic architecture and protected buildings; on the routes, Zbudov is a stop or a place that a cycling route passes through. This distinction is useful when planning, since a visit to the village and a regional route have different points of focus.
Landscape and the village’s setting
Zbudovská Blata consists of meadows in the floodplain of the Bezdrevský potok, also known as the Soudný potok. The landscape stretches between Zbudov, Zliv, Plástovice, Pištín and Sedlec. Zbudov itself lies on the shore of Zbudovský rybník. The village can therefore be understood both in terms of its own location and in relation to the wider landscape of Blata. Zbudovská Blata is also a well-known ornithological site. Bird populations and conservation conditions may change over time.
Blata farmsteads and the village centre
The centre of Zbudov is designated as a village conservation area. The protected group includes 19th-century Blata-style farmsteads with house numbers 1, 3, 4, 23, 25, 26 and 27. House number 1 is the Kubata Farmstead. This list gives a concrete picture of the protected buildings: it is made up of several individual farmsteads, not just one prominent house. The former smithy, house number 28, also stands in the middle of the village square. The square, the farmstead numbers and the smithy offer different points of reference as you explore the village’s architectural history.
Cycling routes with different points of reference
The “Za selským barokem” loop is about 25 kilometres long and runs mostly along existing marked cycling paths. Zbudov is its sixth stop; the route description calls the village a rural conservation reserve. Another cycling route, “Kolem Pištína na Blata”, passes through Zbudov. It is considered easy and is aimed mainly at families with children and seniors. The descriptions thus offer different ways to help you decide: the “Za selským barokem” loop has an approximate length, while the difficulty level and intended audiences are emphasised for “Kolem Pištína na Blata”.
A marked cycling path leads to the monument to Jakub Kubata. The monument stands about one kilometre southeast of Zbudov, by the Soudný potok. Check the markings on site if you plan to use this path. Two stones by the Soudný potok are linked to the legend of Jakub Kubata’s execution. This tradition adds its own narrative to a visit, but remains a connection to a legend.
Kubata Festival at the Village Square and Monument
The traditional Kubata Festival begins with a religious service in Zbudov village square and continues at the monument to Jakub Kubata. The event thus connects two of the village’s landmarks in a set order. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the specific event date in advance; future dates may vary. This will help you decide whether the historic farmsteads, one of the differently described cycling routes or the Kubata Festival should be the focus of your trip.
