Milíře combines a distinctive village centre with surrounding countryside of forests, ponds and wetlands. The Church of St Peter and Paul defines the centre; tourist trails are intended for walkers and cyclists. The village is home to historic and religious memorials, while further wayside shrines and stone crosses are scattered through the forests and meadows. This allows you to treat local history and time outdoors as different focal points of your stay.

Church, Memorial and Local History

The Church of St Peter and Paul is a distinctive landmark in the centre of Milíře and is used by the Orthodox Church. In the historic village centre, a memorial in the churchyard beside the church commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Thus, a place of worship still in use and a war memorial stand side by side in the village centre. Milíře is also marked by numerous wayside shrines and stone crosses: many stand right in the village, with others in the surrounding forests and meadows. Their distribution highlights the difference between a visit to the historic centre and an exploration of the surrounding landscape.

Landscape and Historic Routes

The landscape also preserves traces of earlier use. Remnants of the former pond, now called Mlejňák, remain in Milíře. The two villages of Milíře lie between the Lužní and Sklářský streams; the surrounding area also includes forests, ponds and wetlands. A medieval road ran through the area of the present-day municipality: it led from Bohemia via the border castle of Tachov to Bärnau in the Upper Palatinate and on to Nuremberg. The surviving pond remains and the historic long-distance route point to different layers of the area’s history: earlier use of the landscape and a route that extended far beyond the village.

Walks and Cycling Tours

Milíře has tourist trails for walkers and cyclists. The surrounding area is a popular destination for long walks and cycling tours among residents of nearby Tachov. Halfway to Zadní Milíře, a field track branches off and passes the hamlet of Hruškovna on its way to the impressive Oborské hájenka, situated in the middle of the forest. From Oborské hájenky, you can continue along the Branka nature trail. You can therefore make Oborské hájenka your destination or include the option of continuing along the nature trail in your plans. Route details may change; check the current route before setting off.

Plan Your Journey and Stay

Milíře is connected to Tachov by bus. If you plan to use the bus for your outward or return journey, check the timetable for your chosen day and plan your return trip as well. Coordinate your bus journey with your planned visit to the historic village centre or a tour along the trails in the surrounding area.
