Hlince lies on the left bank of the Berounka in a wooded landscape. Its location by the river and the surrounding countryside give the place a clear focus: the area is well suited to hiking, water-based activities, horse riding and cycling. If you are planning a trip to Hlince, you can tailor your stay to different interests, from the cultural landscape to a group cycling tour.
The Berounka, the nature park and the linden avenue
Hlince is part of the Berounka Nature Park. It protects the preserved landscape character of the Berounka valley, with its rock outcrops, surrounding forests, agricultural land and historic settlement pattern. The nature park was legally designated in 2021. These landscape features show what the protected area comprises: nature and a well-established cultural landscape exist side by side here.
A distinctive feature along the road from Hlince to the settlement of Ptyč (Park Berne) is the “Lipová alej republiky” (Linden Avenue of the Republic). The double-row avenue consists of small-leaved lime trees, botanically known as Tilia cordata. Its specific location along the road and the tree species give the landscape a distinctive, clearly identifiable landmark. At the same time, the avenue is a different point of interest from the Berounka and the open agricultural land in the nature park.
The “Hlineckým rájem” cycling tour
“Hlineckým rájem” is a recurring group cycling tour. It is organised by the municipality of Hlince and the local volunteer fire brigade; it takes place on the second Saturday in September. The tour can therefore be a reason to choose your travel dates deliberately. If you are planning to attend a particular edition, check the date before travelling.
Three route distances are listed for the tour: approximately 30, 41 and 57 kilometres. They provide a useful point of comparison: the shortest and longest options differ considerably in distance, while the middle route is around 41 kilometres. You can use your preferred distance as a guide when planning the tour. As route distances may change in future editions, it is worth checking the details for the specific tour before making plans.
Chapels and protected cultural monuments
A 19th-century chapel stands at the centre of the view from Hlince village square. Another chapel is notable for its reconstruction and an award: the roadside niche chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows received an award on 28 July 2018 at the regional round of the “Golden Brick in the Rural Renewal Programme” competition in Kamenný Újezd. The two buildings thus represent different aspects of the village’s history: one defines the view of the village square, while the other is associated with its restoration and the 2018 award.
Another cultural attraction is the Church of St Peter and Paul in Dolany near Hlince. Together with the surrounding plots, the church is protected as an immovable cultural monument. Its status sets it apart from the chapels, whose significance is evident here through their location, age or award. Together, these buildings offer different ways to understand the area’s history and protected cultural heritage.
When planning a trip to Hlince, you can choose between two different focuses: the landscape of the Berounka valley and local cultural monuments, or, if the timing works, the group cycling tour. If you plan your stay around the tour, you can compare the approximate route distances with your own plans; if you are interested in the landscape and local history, the nature park, linden avenue and chapels offer specific points of interest.
