With the Chapel of Saint Anne, a historic nature trail with ten stops, and the history of the brickworks and factory, Vochov offers several perspectives on its past. The Vochov Venus and a range of walking and event-related topics add to the picture. Here you’ll find both detailed local history and practical information about routes and an event to help plan your trip.
Building and Industrial History
The Chapel of Saint Anne in Vochov dates from 1820. It offers a clear point of reference in time; the historic nature trail, by contrast, centers on a sequence of ten stops. You can therefore choose between learning about a single building and exploring the town’s history through a series of stops.
The Vochov brickworks was founded in 1830 by Prince Lobkowicz and was known for its high-quality bricks. They were used for buildings, chimneys, and durable paving. The Semler factory represents a different production history: it began by making nails and later developed into a wire factory. Under the SEM brand, the factory mainly produced gramophone needles. The brickworks’ story focuses on the material and its uses, while Semler’s is one of changing production.
Another historical trace is the Maskovaná milenka, a decoy created by the Škoda Works in Pilsen. It covered about 100 hectares between Vochov and Vejprnice and was intended to deceive Allied forces during air raids. It was dismantled after the war. This story broadens the focus from local businesses to a larger area between two towns.
Routes and Events
Cycle Route No. 37 continues to Vochov after passing through Křimice. If you plan to ride it, check the current route conditions beforehand. An earlier event also provides specific route details: at the first Svatovojtěšský trojúhelník in 2024, a walking and cycling tour ran from Křimice railway station via Hornička to Vochov. The routes were 6, 10, or 15 kilometers long. Some participants continued to the Cross of Saint Adalbert on the boundary between the cadastral areas of Vochov and Kozolupy. Before making plans, check whether another edition is taking place.
The Mže River flows in the vicinity of Vochov, adding a landscape dimension to the local history. The Cross of Saint Adalbert also has its own local history: in April 2022, the Okrašlovací spolek Vochov moved its base back to its original location and used it for a new installation.
Archaeology and Harvest Festival
The Vochov Venus gives the town an archaeological connection. It is considered the first anthropomorphic figurine from the Neolithic period found in Bohemia, and so far the only completely preserved figurine of its kind from Czech lands outside Moravia. The original is on display in the prehistoric exhibition at the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen. As exhibition displays can change, check the current presentation before visiting the museum.
Vochovské dožínky, an annual harvest festival in Vochov, is among the recurring events. In 2025, it took place on Saturday, September 13, from 3 p.m. at the site by the municipal office. Before making plans, check the date and program for the relevant edition so you don’t mistake the 2025 details for the date of a future event.
