If you choose Pohledy, you can plan your stay around architectural and local history, the landscape, or cycling and hiking routes. In the centre of the village, the St. Vitus Chapel stands on the main road; the Church of St. Nicholas is located above Horní Hynčina, which belongs to Pohledy. This brings together different historical points of interest with nature and trails. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide on your main interest first.
Architectural history and remembrance
The St. Vitus Chapel was built in 1737 and served as a community bell tower. It stands in the centre of Pohledy on the main road; a tall stone crucifix stands in front of its entrance. The chapel has been included in the state list of cultural monuments since 2003. The year it was built, its protected status, and its function as a bell tower describe different aspects of the building; the crucifix adds a specific detail at the entrance to its story.
The Church of St. Nicholas stands above Horní Hynčina, in the middle of a cemetery. It dates back to an original Gothic building and was remodelled in 1759. Its tower contains four bells; the largest dates from 1599. The church was added to the list of cultural monuments in 1964. Since 1921, a monument to the victims of the First World War has stood nearby. The original Gothic form and the remodelling mark its architectural history; the bell, monument listing, and memorial add other historical points of reference.
A description published in 2023 listed regular church services on Sundays and public holidays at the Church of St. Nicholas. If you are planning to attend a service, check the current schedule.
The history of both places goes back further still. Pohledy and Horní Hynčina were founded around 1270 during the German colonisation under Bruno of Schauenburg, Bishop of Olomouc. This approximate date applies to both place names, while the later dates refer to individual buildings, a bell, or a memorial. This makes it possible to distinguish their shared origins from the individual architectural and commemorative records.
Landscape and steppe vegetation
Pastvina is designated in Pohledy as a registered significant landscape feature. The slopes northeast of Pohledy are protected as a significant landscape feature and are home to characteristic steppe vegetation. These protected features and vegetation extend the focus on landscape beyond architectural and local history. Nature lovers can consider them as a separate focus alongside the historic buildings.
Cycling and hiking
Two cycle routes pass through Pohledy, and a red-marked hiking route also runs through the village. You can plan your activities by type: cycling and hiking each have their own place in the trip. Before travelling, check the routes of the cycle paths and the hiking route’s markings. This brief check is useful if you want to include a specific outing in your stay.
