Chotovice brings together village history, church culture and opportunities to enjoy nature. A prominent landmark is the Kostel sv. Prokopa: the church stands on higher ground, offers scenic views and is also used for cultural events. There are different options for walks and hikes: a stork nature trail and a marked route through the village.

Church, Views and Village History

The Kostel sv. Prokopa is a filial church of the Roman Catholic Parish of Nové Hrady u Skutče. It has been a protected cultural monument since May 1958. The church is also used for cultural events, including regular singing, music performances by children and young people, and nativity scene exhibitions. It stands at an elevation of 480 metres, with views from there across the Litomyšl Basin and towards the Orlické Mountains. In favourable weather, Sněžka is also visible. There are two viewpoints with seating near the church. To enjoy the landscape, you can consider the church and the two nearby viewpoints as separate places to stop.

At “Hlavátky,” a stone cross marks the centre of the village. Václav Jůza, a retired farm labourer from house number 58, donated it in 1890. The cross was completely dismantled, cleaned and repaired; today it is once again in its former condition.

Walks and Hiking Route

The Čapí naučná stezka runs through the Franze Hantschela Forest Park and offers a walk in nature. Along the way, you can learn about the lives of storks and the surrounding area. If you are interested in storks, this nature walk lets you explore that particular theme. Check current conditions before setting out.

Marked hiking route 0448 runs from Litomyšl to Budislav and passes through Chotovice. Unlike the Čapí naučná stezka, which focuses on the lives of storks and nature, route 0448 is a hiking link between two named places. The route information lists “Chotovice – kostel” at 14.3 km and “Chotovice – náves” at 14.6 km. These figures indicate positions along the route, not distances from Chotovice. Events and Local Life

The municipality held the Netradiční hasičská soutěž “O pohár obce Chotovice” through its fifth edition. The competition formats included an unusual attack using an Avia vehicle, a classic 80-metre firefighting attack and races in tubs. Individual programme items may change.
