The hills of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands surround Březiny. In the village, short nature trails, historical traces and recurring events offer different ways to explore the area. When planning, it helps to distinguish specific routes and cultural themes from activities with dates that vary.

Nature Trails and Walks

Kukyho les is an approximately 1-kilometre circular trail aimed primarily at children. Its eight interactive stops include watermills, a tilting map with a ball, Hergotův domeček and Hergotmobil. The combination of a circular route and its stops gives this outing a clear focus: the individual interactive features take centre stage, rather than a long-distance hike.

The Literary Nature Trail of Březiny follows a different route, from Bělisko to Drašarova lípa. Its five stops cover the Vysočina region, traditional crafts, and the work of writer Terezie Nováková and composer Bohuslav Martinů. The route thus brings together regional and cultural themes. Drašarova lípa is the endpoint of this nature trail; Lunáčkova lípa is a separate natural attraction described independently.

Lunáčkova lípa is a winter lime tree more than 300 years old. It stands 30.5 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of 602 centimetres. A green-marked hiking trail leads to it. This offers a different connection with nature from the interactive stops at Kukyho les: here, the focus is on a single tree and its remarkable dimensions.

Village History and Culture

Březiny’s traditional folk architecture includes simple, whitewashed cottages and farmsteads. The Chapel of St. Roch is also part of the village landscape; it stands in the centre of Březiny. Those interested in the village’s history can also explore its former occupations and crafts: the Berkovna glassworks was built in 1696. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, residents processed flax fibres into linen.

Various exhibitions of paintings and photographs are held in the former school building during the summer. This seasonal offering differs from the enduring historical features of the cottages, chapel and former glassworks. If exhibitions are an important part of your trip, plan your visit for the summer.

Events and Local Products

Březinská padesátka is a 50-kilometre running competition through the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, organised by the Municipality of Březiny since 2015. Dates and registration details vary. The Pohádkový les is another regular event. If you want to plan your trip around a particular event, check its date in advance.

The municipality’s regular programme also includes tournaments in nohejbal, floorball, volleyball and table tennis. Alongside the nature trails and historical themes, these community sports events provide another possible reason to visit. You can choose an event based on whether you are more interested in a route, local history or a particular occasion.

Sýry z Březin offers a local culinary connection: the producer makes fresh and matured cheeses, yoghurt and quark from cow’s milk. The range may change, so check the current selection if you are looking for a particular product.
