In Lanškroun, a range of cultural and historical themes come together with practical hiking options: from the former Augustinian monastery and the Renaissance town hall to routes ranging from 5 to 100 kilometers. You can focus your stay on architectural history, nature, or a combination of both.
Monastery history, churches and town hall
The Městské muzeum Lanškroun is housed in Lanškroun Castle. The castle stands on the site of a former Gothic Augustinian monastery and now serves as a cultural and social center as well as the town museum. St Wenceslas Church is part of this historical setting: it belongs to the former monastery, which now forms Lanškroun Castle, and is an originally Gothic church dating from the 14th century.
St Wenceslas Church is used for services; concerts of sacred music are held there occasionally. These occasional concerts are an addition to its use for services, not a regular concert series. The construction history of St Anne Church dates back to the early 18th century: it was built between 1702 and 1705, probably to a design by Baroque master G. P. Tencalla. It has been listed as a cultural monument since 1964. The protected site also includes the wall surrounding the former cemetery, with its gate, as well as the sculptural features in the immediate vicinity of the church.
Lanškroun’s Renaissance town hall was built in 1581–1582. Two valuable stone portals bear the coats of arms of the manorial lords and the town’s coat of arms—symbols of the lordship and the town are brought together here on one building. Another historical milestone is the Krčma inn, first mentioned in written records in 1568.
Hiking routes and nature on the educational trail
The Lanškrounská KOPA hiking event offers routes of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60 and 100 kilometers. The 5-kilometer hiking route is suitable for parents with children, strollers and wheelchair users. The stated distances provide a clear guide for choosing a route; the shortest option is explicitly described as suitable for these groups. The longer distances offer a different level of challenge, without requiring an assumed walking time.
The Lanškrounské rybníky educational trail runs through Lanškrounské rybníky Nature Park, which is part of the Natura 2000 network. The route is described as easy and also passes over wooden boardwalks and small bridges. Lanškrounská KOPA mainly offers a choice of route lengths, while the educational trail is also described as easy and includes these route features. Since trail conditions can change, it is worth checking the latest information on the trail’s condition before your visit.
