In Nekoř, churches built in different periods stand alongside traces of a medieval castle; the Pastvinská přehrada and its surroundings add further attractions, with water and trails. This makes it possible to tailor a stay to different interests: history and architectural styles form one focus, while walks, hiking trails and cycling routes offer another. When planning, it is worth considering these options separately rather than treating them as a set route.
Landscape, Water and Trails
Nekoř lies in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains, along the Divoká Orlice. The Nekořský potok flows through the village. The Pastvinská přehrada is also part of the local landscape: its dam and the adjacent surroundings lie within the cadastral area of the municipality of Nekoř and offer good conditions for water sports. There are also opportunities for sport fishing in the reservoir area. Water sports and sport fishing offer different ways to enjoy a stay by the water.
The area around the balancing reservoir of the Pastvinská přehrada, known as Malá přehrada, offers a quieter setting. The surroundings of the reservoir and the holiday settlement of Údolí invite visitors to go for walks. Several hiking trails and cycling routes pass through Nekoř. Explore Nekoř on foot along the hiking trails or by bike on the cycling routes. In Údolí, the Zvonička is close to the recreational area of the Pastvinská přehrada, and one of the cycling routes passes by it.
Churches, Castle Ruins and Architectural Styles
The Church of St. Nicholas in Nekoř dates from 1698. Its reconstructed organ can be heard at organ concerts. The Husův sbor in Nekoř represents another chapter in the history of religious architecture: built in 1935, it is a church of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The two buildings represent different periods and religious traditions. They are joined by surviving examples of timber-framed log houses. Thus, the local building heritage includes not only churches but also a traditional form of wooden construction.
The remains of a small, unidentified medieval castle survive at Vejrov. They are located on a rocky ridge above the right bank of the Divoká Orlice, near the Pastviny reservoir. The Zvonička also stands in Údolí; according to tradition, it is said to have been built in 1775. Nekoř offers cultural sights on different scales: a church with a known date, a 20th-century building, surviving residential architecture and archaeological remains. The Hasičské minimuzeum displays historic fire pumps from 1874 and 1909; the later one has been reconstructed.
Plan Activities and Your Journey
In May, the fire brigade sports grounds in Nekoř serve as a suitable starting point for boating on the Divoká Orlice. This seasonal activity differs clearly from walks by the balancing reservoir or visits to historic sites. If you plan to go boating, check the exact dates before travelling. This keeps May as a useful guide without assuming a specific event date.
Nekoř can be reached by bus from Letohrad, Žamberk and Jablonné nad Orlicí. Check current bus departure times for your travel dates.
