Kameničná offers several points of interest for those interested in culture and the landscape. Local history includes the Chapel of the Holy Trinity and a stone Marian column; historical traces remain in Suchá. In the summer months, there are also opportunities for hiking and cycling in the landscape of the Orlické Mountains. You can decide whether to focus your stay more on local history or outdoor activities.

Chapel, Marian Column and Local History

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity was completed in 1863 and consecrated on September 29, 1867. Completion and consecration mark two distinct stages in its history. The stone Marian column in Kameničná is dated to 1681. The cemetery in Kameničná was consecrated on June 23, 1878.

The area’s former rulers are also part of its local history. Kameničná formerly belonged to the Lords of Litice. In 1809, the village was part of the Žamberk estate, whose seat was in Žamberk. Together, these details offer different insights, from religious buildings and their consecration to a monument in the village park and political affiliations in earlier centuries.

Historical Traces and Local Legend

At the site called “Na hradě” in Suchá, remnants of the moat of a 13th-century castle have been preserved. The specific reference to the surviving moat sets this site apart from the dated structures in Kameničná: here, the focus is on a historical site, part of whose moat is still present today.

A local legend tells of an enchanted princess whose tears spring from a source below the castle. The spring is called “U princezny” (“By the Princess”); only a concrete ring remains at its source. Another story is associated with the Plague Column: it stands at a place where residents who died in a plague epidemic are laid to rest. For travelers interested in local history, the themes range from buildings and traces in the landscape to a local tale.

Summer Trails and Landscape

In the summer months, Kameničná offers opportunities for hiking and cycling in the varied landscape of the Orlické Mountains. A marked trail for hikers runs through the eastern part of the municipality, from Žamberk via Polsko, Houkov and Velká Suchá to Rokytnice. This gives visitors who want to plan around a named route a specific hiking trail; cycling is also mentioned as a summer activity in the landscape.

Kameničná borders the Orlické Mountains Protected Landscape Area. The protected area boundary runs through neighboring Pěčín. For orientation on the road network, Road No. 310 leads from Helvíkovice to Kameničná. Beyond the village, routes branch off toward Říčky v Orlických horách and Bartošovice v Orlických horách via Pěčín and Rokytnice, and toward Rychnov nad Kněžnou via Slatina nad Zdobnicí and Javornice.

Music and Local Traditions

Musical events also contribute to cultural life. The “KAMÍNCI” choir regularly performs a Christmas carol program in the local chapel in Kameničná. The choir also sings various songs at the village’s June procession. Visitors who want to include local traditions in their travel plans alongside historical buildings will find another cultural highlight here.

Another kind of local event is the traditional Motosraz Kameňák. It is organized by SPZ z.s. on the sports ground behind Veverkovými. Together with the choir performances, the event offers a broader view of Kameničná beyond its sights and summer activities.

When choosing where to stay, you can take these different interests into account: the chapel, Marian column and historical traces in Suchá bring local history to the fore, while hiking and cycling highlight the summer landscape.
