Stéblová combines hiking trails with a local history that can be seen at several specific locations. The Okruh Stéblová loop starts at the railway station and returns there; another yellow-marked trail leads from the railway stop to Kunětická hora. In the village, there is a sandstone cross at the southern end of the village square and a fire station with a small bell tower. The memorial by the railway station and the Obecní rybník pond also offer distinct points of interest. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between hiking, local history, and rail connections.
Hiking Trails and Rail Connections
The Okruh Stéblová loop starts at the railway station. Just beyond the road, the trail continues as a sandy forest path; a yellow-marked KČT hiking trail completes the loop back to the station. Another yellow-marked hiking connection leads from Stéblová railway stop to Kunětická hora; this approach is listed as approximately 8 km. This gives you a choice between a loop that returns to Stéblová and a hike focused on Kunětická hora. This distinction can help you choose: one route specifies a return point, while the other has a specific hiking destination and an approximate distance.
Stéblová has rail connections towards Pardubice and Hradec Králové. Check the timetable for your planned travel date before your trip if you would like to include the train in your plans.
Traces of Local History
At the southern end of the village square stands a sandstone cross, erected in 1899 to mark the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. A fire station with a small bell tower stands right beside it. A memorial by the railway station commemorates the 1960 railway accident. The memorial was restored in 2000. The two memorial sites mark different historical points: the cross is associated with an anniversary, while the memorial commemorates a specific railway event.
The history of the settlement also refers to the Oplatil fishpond. Stéblová was rebuilt in 1549 just below the southeastern edge of the side embankment of the Oplatil fishpond; the original village had been flooded. The local history thus encompasses both the rebuilding and the story of the former settlement site. For visitors interested in historical changes to the landscape, this context adds another perspective on Stéblová alongside its individual memorial sites.
Obecní rybník Pond and a Traditional Competition
Obecní rybník pond offers a different point of interest from the cross and memorials. In 2022–2023, it was revitalized and fitted with a waterside deck, access steps, and an access ramp. These features offer a concrete insight into the design of the area by the water: the deck is intended for visitors to spend time on, while the steps and ramp provide access. The pond adds a more recent development to the selection of local attractions, alongside the historical sites in the village square and by the railway station.
The traditional Stéblovský pohár fire-sports competition takes place around the turn of July and August. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the date and program for the relevant year in advance.
