The Evangelical Helvetic Church is Bukovka’s present-day landmark. Forests and ponds lie to the south and east; the historic Jilovka fortress and paths with specific connections to the water are also part of the area. This gives you different ways to explore culture, local history and outdoor activities during your stay.
Landscape and Pond Trails
Bukovka is surrounded by forests and ponds to the south and east. A green-marked hiking trail runs through the Bukovka area along the dam of Rozhrna Pond. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The pond dam provides a specific landmark along the trail, while the forests and ponds form the broader landscape.
Church and Cultural Events
The Evangelical Helvetic Church was built from 1859 to 1861 on the site of a wooden prayer house. It is also occasionally used for concerts, lectures and youth events. The church’s 2026 program lists regular Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. from spring through autumn. One individual event was the Night of Churches on May 29, 2026: the church was part of the program, and a music program took place there from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. When planning dates, it is worth distinguishing the Sunday services listed in the 2026 church program from the one-off evening event for the Night of Churches. Check dates before planning a visit.
Fortress and Historical Traces
Around 1465, the Lords of Bukůvka acquired the outlying fortress “Jilovka” and the adjacent Skříní Pond. The fortress could only be reached via a wooden bridge. A Neo-Gothic wayside shrine dating from 1872 is located in Bukovka; there is also a liberation monument in the village square. The chronological sequence runs from the acquisition of the fortress around 1465, through the church’s construction in 1859–1861, to the wayside shrine of 1872. This places the fortress’s history and the later built features in different periods. The shrine’s style and construction year provide context, while the liberation monument’s location in the village square is its specific point of reference.
Cycling Through the Surrounding Area
The 7 km-long cycle route 4276 starts at Trhoňka Pond in Bukovka and passes through Křičeň and Rohoznice on its way to Dobřenice. The sequence of places makes the start, intermediate stops and destination clear: Bukovka is the starting point, and Křičeň and Rohoznice lie on the way to Dobřenice. By contrast, the dam of Rozhrna Pond is the reference point for the hiking trail, while the cycle route starts at Trhoňka. The distance and sequence of places help you gauge the bike ride; the hiking trail is defined by its route along the pond dam. Another marked local cycle route passes through Bukovka and Habřinka; check current route conditions before setting out.
