One stop on the MAGEO geological educational cycle route passes through Mokošín. A wayside shrine and the Mokoš Statue give the village specific cultural and historical points of interest. From Křemen, there is a view of Přelouč; in good visibility, it extends as far as the Krkonoše Mountains. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these different themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.

MAGEO: Geology by bike

MAGEO is a 29-kilometre geological educational cycle route in the Železné hory National Geopark. The route starts at Přelouč railway station; one of its 13 stops, each with an information board, passes through Mokošín. For travel planning, the total route and its connection to a particular village are two different measures: the 29 kilometres refer to the cycle route as a whole, while Mokošín is one of its stop locations. This helps distinguish the route’s overall scale from its specific connection to the village. If you include MAGEO in your plans, check the current signage and trail conditions before setting out; both may change.

Cultural landmarks and imagery

The “Boží muka” wayside shrine in Mokošín is a stone cross on a pedestal with a Madonna. A depiction of the Lamb of God is located beneath a cross in Mokošín. Both motifs draw attention to different religious imagery. The Mokoš Statue adds a datable wooden sculpture to the village’s landmarks: it was carved in 2007 from a lime tree described as “Slavic,” following a design by woodcarver Miroslav Landovský.

A 2021 report by Czech Radio recounts that people bring fruit as offerings and light candles at the statue during festivities. The years have different roles here: 2007 dates the creation of the statue, while 2021 dates the report about the practice described. If this custom is important to you, ask locally whether it is still observed.

View from Křemen

The summit of Křemen is 258 metres above sea level. From there, there is a view of Přelouč; in good visibility, the view extends as far as the Krkonoše Mountains. The summit’s elevation is a fixed topographic value, while the distance of the view depends on good visibility. If the mountain view is an important part of your plans, bear this condition in mind.

Choose your travel focus

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh these themes according to your interests: should the geological cycle route, cultural imagery, or the landscape views be the deciding factor? Each focus addresses a different planning question. MAGEO has a clearly defined route length, the cultural details identify individual works of art, and the distant view from Křemen depends on good visibility.
