The history of roads and historic buildings give Vikýřovice a distinct cultural focus. There are also cycling routes, a hiking route and a winter cross-country skiing route. This makes it possible to treat cultural interests and outdoor activity as different priorities for a stay.
Road history at the Muzeum silnic
The Muzeum silnic is housed in the historic Krenišovský dvůr in Vikýřovice. One permanent exhibition is titled “Z historie a současnosti našich silničních mostů” and explores the history and present-day state of road bridges. Another permanent exhibition is devoted to the life and work of the Klein brothers. The courtyard displays renovated road maintenance machinery as well as a wooden statue of Saint Christopher. The bridge exhibition focuses on structures, the machinery in the courtyard on maintenance, and the Klein brothers have their own biographical focus. This brings different aspects of road history together.
Architectural history and historic traces
The Renesanční tvrz has survived as a massive, single-storey building with arcades; its exterior walls are over a metre thick. The Zámeček in Vikýřovice features Neo-Renaissance architecture with elements of French design. The two buildings make different impressions: at the Renesanční tvrz, the arcades and massive walls stand out, while at the Zámeček, it is the combination of Neo-Renaissance and French elements.
The Chapel of Saint Anthony was rebuilt in 1777 as a brick chapel in the Classical style. After flood damage in 1997, it was completely reconstructed between 2000 and 2001. The sandstone ensemble Sousoší Kalvárie also has several dates in its history: it has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since March 2007 and was reconstructed in 2024. An inventory of the Losiny estate from 1591 lists a fortress near Vikýřovice.
Cycling, hiking and cross-country skiing
The marked Nedvězí–Kladské Sedlo cycling route passes through Vikýřovice. The Šumperk–Skřítek–Velké Losiny–Šumperk cycling route also runs through the town. A 14-kilometre hiking route leads from Šumperk via Anenský Dvůr and Vikýřovice and back to Šumperk. In winter, the 20-kilometre Skřítek–Rabštejn–Hvězda–Traťovka–Vikýřovice cross-country skiing route leads to Vikýřovice. For planning purposes, the two longer routes differ in length and season: 14 kilometres on foot compared with 20 kilometres on a winter cross-country skiing route. Check local route conditions before setting out; for cross-country skiing, also check winter conditions and the current trail status.
Events and sport
The annual Svatohubertská pouť in the Desná Valley includes a second part of the programme at the sports and community centre in Vikýřovice. The traditional Kácení máje takes place in the park by the Zámeček. If you want an event to determine your travel dates, check the specific dates before planning. Local sports facilities also include a football pitch, a gymnasium and a multi-purpose sports ground. Whether and under what conditions these facilities can be used depends on their respective operating rules.
