A Way of the Cross comprising 14 paintings, a church site with a history dating back to 1643, and the Andělárium sculpture symposium give Rejchartice a varied cultural character. There is also a hiking route and a location along the Kamenec stream. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Rejchartice, you can plan your stay around your interests: sacred architecture, stone carving, walks or an art event in July. Timing matters for the symposium; the village’s history, by contrast, can be explored through several architectural and cultural details.

Landscape and hiking route

Rejchartice stretches along the Kamenec stream. In the surrounding Hrubý Jeseník mountains, peaks rise to 794 metres; the local forests invite visitors to walk year-round. The Andělské stezky hiking route is 5.2 kilometres long. Three information boards guide walkers along the route. Its length and the boards provide two specific points of reference for the walk, complementing the architectural history with a perspective on the landscape.

Church, chapel and stone carving

The protected Baroque Church of St Michael is a listed monument dating from 1770, with an older core; the cemetery grounds are part of the church complex. The Way of the Cross consists of 14 paintings by the painter Jindřich Kress of Rapotín. The church stands on the site of a church dating from 1643 and at the crossroads of four historic paths connecting the surrounding villages with Rejchartice. The older core and the site of the 1643 church show that the building’s history goes back further than the listed monument of 1770. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is another historic building, dating from 1755.

Stone crosses in the municipality and historic 19th-century tomb monuments in the cemetery bear witness to a tradition of artistic stone carving in the Šumperk area. The monument to the victims of the First World War underwent extensive restoration from April to August 2024. If the monument’s current condition is important for your visit, check it in advance.

Art and event dates

The Andělárium sculpture symposium has been held in Rejchartice since 2013 and aims to build a unique collection of angel sculptures. In the third week of July, you can watch sculptors and woodcarvers transform tree trunks into angel sculptures. If you want to experience the creative process, it is best to plan your trip for that week and check the specific event dates in advance. The traditional SvatoMichaelská pouť (St Michael’s pilgrimage festival) has also been revived, and various cultural events are held as well. Check their dates before your trip too.

The two activities offer different options for planning your travel dates: the symposium takes place in the third week of July, while the 5.2-kilometre hiking route offers a clearly defined activity. This lets you decide whether to make an art event or a walk the focus of your plans.
