Hacky lies on a plateau in the northeastern part of the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. Its musical history, textile crafts, a chapel and the story of a windmill give the village several cultural points of interest; at the same time, views from here extend towards Velký Kosíř. Two details are important for planning your trip: the windmill is part of a regional cycling route but is not open to the public, and the exact dates of the annual “otvírání silnic” may vary. This allows you to combine cultural themes and landscape connections with realistic expectations about access and timing.

Music, Crafts and a Chapel

Composer Antonín Žváček, who was born in Hacky, composed around 500 works, mainly polkas and waltzes. These genres give the village’s musical history a distinct profile: his extensive body of work is particularly associated with two musical forms. Kanafase and barchete fabrics were also woven in Hacky. Alongside the music, these two textile names represent another craft tradition in the village.

At the centre of the village stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, built in 1927. Above the entrance is a fresco depicting Saints Cyril and Methodius. The year it was built and the image are two different points of interest: one dates the chapel, while the other identifies a specific feature of its design.

Windmill History and Access

Hacky’s former wooden windmill burned down to its foundations in 1914; a new one was built on the same site in 1923. Its history can thus be briefly divided into the fire and the rebuilding. The windmill’s rotor is 7 m in diameter and consists of six wooden sails. This structural feature adds a specific architectural detail to the timeline.

The windmill is privately owned, used as a residence and not open to the public for visits. So do not plan to visit the interior. The “Za větrnými mlýny okolo Konice” cycling route passes through Hacky; the village windmill is one of its three windmill stops.

Landscape and Trails

To the north, Hacky is sheltered by Březina Forest and the 562 m-high Na skalách hill. At the same time, there are far-reaching views towards Velký Kosíř. The landscape description thus brings together two different features: the shelter provided by the northern edge of forest and hill, and the distant views towards Velký Kosíř.

The “U dvou studánek 2” spring can be reached by footpath. The spring’s register entry was last updated in 2011, so check the route before your visit.

Cycling Season and Trip Planning

The traditional annual “otvírání silnic” marks the start of the cycling season. Hacky is the destination of the first group ride after winter. Dates may vary from year to year, so check the event details if you are planning your trip around it. The event and the windmill route serve different planning purposes: “otvírání silnic” provides a seasonal occasion, while the route offers a themed itinerary. You can decide whether an event date or the connection to the windmills is more important for your stay.
