Haňovice combines its location by the March floodplain with buildings and traces of history. The castle, the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and archaeological finds give the village a strong cultural character. Events and the sale of tomatoes from Haňovice greenhouses add to the local attractions.
Between the river landscape and the uplands
Haňovice lies on the right edge of the March floodplain, below the summit of Rampach, which is part of the Zábřežská vrchovina uplands. The Bouzovská vrchovina uplands begin on the western side of the village. Three geographical features can be distinguished: the floodplain as a river landscape, Rampach as a summit in the Zábřežská vrchovina, and the Bouzovská vrchovina, which begins to the west.
Castle and chapel
Despite later alterations, a Renaissance portal, heraldic panels and several interior vaults have been preserved at Haňovice Castle. The portal provides a distinctive stylistic accent, while the heraldic panels and vaults add details to its furnishings and interior. The later alterations are also part of the castle’s architectural history.
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a detached, single-nave building with a polygonal presbytery. These terms describe its basic form: a single nave and a multi-sided chancel. In front of the chapel stands a stone cross with a Calvary group. Haňovice also has a monument to the victims of the First World War.
The castle and chapel have different architectural focal points: at the castle, individual surviving features stand out; at the chapel, it is the building’s form. The cross in front of the chapel adds a religious element to the outdoor setting.
Traces of the past in archaeology
Archaeological finds attest to human activity in Haňovice and the surrounding area as early as the Late Stone Age. Early medieval finds suggest that iron ore was probably processed in Haňovice in the 10th century.
Events and local produce
The Haňovský košt reached its 17th edition in 2026, making it a recurring event. Shooting at clay targets was part of the programme at Myslivecký den on 1 May 2026. With its 17th edition, the Košt can be considered a recurring event; the shooting was part of a specifically dated occasion. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the date and whether you can attend the planned edition.
The ZD Haňovice sales outlet sells tomatoes from Haňovice’s greenhouses. This adds a specific connection to locally produced food alongside the architectural and historical attractions. As availability and opening conditions may change, check them before visiting. For events, check the date and whether you can attend; for tomato sales, availability and opening conditions are what matter, so it is best to make enquiries in advance based on the specific reason for your visit.
