Stará Ves Nad Ondřejnicí brings together Renaissance architecture, local history, and trails through a protected riverine landscape. The castle and the Church of St. John the Baptist tell the story of building in the late 16th century; nature and cycling trails also run through the village or lead to it. When planning your visit, you can focus on architecture and art history, or set aside time for a walk and the landscapes of Poodří.
Explore the Castle and Church
The castle is a Renaissance building from the second half of the 16th century, decorated with impressive sgraffito. The Church of St. John the Baptist was built between 1587 and 1589 on the site of an older wooden church. Construction was funded by the landowner at the time, Ctibor the Elder Syrakovský; in 1591, the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Olomouc, Stanislav Pavlovský. Its so-called transitional style combines Gothic and Renaissance elements. The castle and church thus offer two distinct architectural points of interest from the same period.
The history of the church interior is also linked to the time of its construction. During restoration work in 2001 and 2002, a Renaissance figural fresco from the period when the church was founded, before 1600, was uncovered. It depicts a Calvary scene with Christ, Aaron, and Moses. The building chronology is complemented by a stylistic classification and a work of art rediscovered during restoration.

The Poodří Riverine Landscape
The Poodří Protected Landscape Area preserves a riverine landscape along the Oder and its tributaries. Its described landscape features include meadows, floodplain forests, old river channels, permanent and seasonal pools, ponds, and springs on the slopes of river terraces. The protected area is also characterized by rich flora and fauna. Poodří also includes the cadastral area of Stará Ves Nad Ondřejnicí. Those interested in landscapes and nature will find a different focus here from the Renaissance buildings in the village.
