Rychvald Château and St. Anne’s Church offer two different ways to explore architectural history. At Skučák, the focus is instead on the pond ecosystem, wetland habitats and birdlife. You can plan your stay around whether you are particularly interested in historic architecture or nature watching.

Renaissance château and regional architectural history

Rychvald Château is a two-storey Renaissance building with four wings. Bernard Barský z Baště had it built between 1575 and 1577. Protected as a cultural monument, it preserves historic architectural features that help define the château’s character.

The tour takes in a courtyard with historic arcades, vaulted cellars and a chapel. Two kitchens—a black kitchen and a white kitchen—are also part of the tour. Inside, you can see gentlemen’s and ladies’ salons, a gallery, a children’s room, a bedroom and the main dining hall. The tour thus offers a glimpse into different parts of the château, from the courtyard to the living and reception rooms.

Individual visits are currently available for groups of four or more by prior arrangement. Check availability before your visit. If you want the château to be a fixed part of your stay, take this requirement into account when planning.

St. Anne’s makes a different architectural impression. The church is a valuable religious building: the single-nave structure has a polygonal chancel and a projecting square tower. In contrast to the château’s Renaissance style, St. Anne’s draws attention to Late Gothic forms, documenting how they continued to be used in regional architecture up to the end of the 16th century. The church has been protected as a monument since 3 May 1958.

Pond landscape and birdwatching at Skučák

The Skučák Nature Reserve protects a pond ecosystem and adjoining wetland habitats with significant plant and animal species.

Several pairs of great crested grebes (Podiceps cristatus) and various duck species can be observed at Skučák. These include the common teal (Anas crecca), garganey (Anas querquedula) and northern shoveler (Anas clypeata). Sightings may vary seasonally. If you are particularly interested in birdlife, bear this seasonal variation in mind when setting your expectations.

Cycling route and other cultural events

If you are planning to travel by bicycle, route M is relevant: it connects Michálkovice and Rychvald. As the route of individual sections may change, check the current route information before planning your ride.

Husův sbor is located on the village square. In June 2025, it was also described as being open for social and cultural gatherings. If you are planning a visit, arrange it in advance.

The Rychvaldské rybí slavnosti (Rychvald Fish Festival) was held for the 24th time in 2024 as a traditional celebration. The all-day programme was aimed at children and adults.
