Dětmarovice can be explored through its buildings and places of remembrance: sacred architecture, a wayside cross, a war memorial and technical heritage each offer a different focus.

Churches and a Chapel: Different Timelines

Kostel sv. Maří Magdalény stands on the site of an original wooden church dating from 1447. The single-nave church, built in the Neo-Romanesque style, dates from 1870 and is registered as a Czech cultural monument under registration number 104132. “Single-nave” describes a church space with one main nave; “Neo-Romanesque” refers to a style that revives Romanesque forms. These terms therefore describe the spatial layout and architectural language.

Něbrojova kaple is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Dětmarovice and dates from 1860. An archival record from 1866 documents permission to celebrate Mass there twice a year: on the feast day of St Mark and on the feast day of St Isidore.

Wayside Cross, War Memorial and Memorial Trees

Bendův kříž is considered the oldest surviving wayside or field cross in Dětmarovice; it was renovated in 2004. The memorial to the victims of the Second World War in Dětmarovice dates from the 1950s.

Trees are also part of the local memorial landscape. The Bendův usedlost estate is home to a group of five memorial trees: two pedunculate oaks and three small-leaved limes. Their exact number and species composition give this place a distinct focus alongside the buildings and monuments.

Technical Heritage and Fishing

The municipality of Dětmarovice is home to the only well-preserved bunker. It is a light fortification dating from 1937, known as a řopík. Větřák is one of the last surviving windmills in Dětmarovice and the only one still standing at its original location. Kempného mlýn includes a replica dating from 2012.

Hastrmanka offers a different focus: this private fishing pond is located in Dětmarovice, where fishing is permitted on a “catch and release” basis. Check the current opening hours, access and booking conditions before visiting. With “catch and release,” the fish is returned to the water after being caught rather than kept. If you want to keep your catch, bear this fishing practice in mind when choosing where to fish.

Getting There and Choosing Where to Stay

Dětmarovice lies on a major railway line. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable for your travel dates. When choosing accommodation, you can first consider whether you would like to include sacred and commemorative history, technical heritage or fishing in your stay. This can help you match Dětmarovice to your reason for travelling before choosing a specific holiday apartment according to your personal criteria.
