Explore Rusín through a range of attractions: the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, a landscape shaped by ice ages, and cultural sites in Hrozová. The Matějovická Cave and Cycling Route 3 are also specific points of interest for a stay. Depending on your interests, you can focus on church art, nature or cycling.

The Chapel on Rusínský kopec

Rusínský kopec is 314 metres high and forms the last foothill of the Osoblažská pahorkatina. The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary stands on the hill. Its location links a sacred building to a clearly identified part of the landscape. It is a specific point of reference in Rusín: the chapel is on Rusínský kopec, not merely somewhere in the surrounding area.

Ice-Age Landscape and Sandstone

The landscape around Matějovice was shaped by ice cover during the Quaternary ice ages. When the ice retreated, it left behind stony moraines and deposits of sand. This geological history gives the natural surroundings a geological context: the moraines and sand point to different traces of the retreat. Together with the Matějovická Cave, they offer a different way to explore the area than its churches and art.

The Matějovická Cave is a natural attraction in a sandstone cliff. Access comes with a special condition: the original entrance is blocked, and the cave is currently accessible through a man-made entrance. Check local access conditions before your visit.

Church and Art in Hrozová

The Church of St Michael in Hrozová was restored between 2010 and 2015. The listed precinct of the parish church also includes the wall surrounding the adjacent cemetery; the ensemble is listed in the register of immovable cultural monuments of the Bruntál District. Visitors interested in historic churches will find both a historic building with a restoration history and a designated heritage site here.

The Church of St Michael can be visited free of charge by prior arrangement. Check the booking options again before your trip. Hrozová’s art history also includes the Madonna of Hrozová, which belongs to the relatively rare iconographic type known as the Madonna of the Rosary. The work is currently on display in the exhibition building of the Silesian Museum in Opava. This distinction is useful when planning: the church is in Hrozová, while the Madonna is currently on display in Opava.

For a cycling route to follow, Cycling Route 3 in the Osoblažsko region passes through Hrozová, Rusín and Matějovice.
