Nové Heřminovy lies in the valley along the Opava River. Travelers will find a range of attractions here: the Ptačí hora woodland, the history and architecture of the municipality, and local natural sights. The routes offer several ways to plan your visit—from stops in the village to routes through the surrounding area. You can tailor your focus on nature, local history and cycling to your personal interests.

The Valley and Ptačí hora Woodland

The Ptačí hora area lies within the cadastral territory of Nové Heřminovy and covers 76.2730 ha. At its heart is the national natural monument of the same name. It protects natural submontane beech and beech-fir forests, as well as a stand of original Jeseník larches (Larix decidua). These features give the natural area a distinct character: protected forest types and larches define the place’s natural landscape. Together with its location in the Opava valley, they offer a landscape shaped by both river and woodland.

Two Nature Trail Routes, Two Themes

The “Naučná stezka Nové Heřminovy” nature trail consists of two routes with different focuses. The village route is 1.5 km long and has seven stops covering the history and unique architecture of the municipality. These include the former spa facilities. This route focuses on the village’s past and architectural features. The second route runs through the surrounding area, is 6 km long, and covers local natural sights at five stops. It is therefore 4.5 km longer than the village route, but has a different thematic focus. So the comparison is not just about distance, but also whether you are more interested in local history and architecture or nature.

Comparing Cycling Routes

Cycling Route No. 6161 runs from Lesní mlýn through Václavov u Bruntálu, Valšov, Mezina, Dlouhá Stráň and Milotice nad Opavou, passing through Nové Heřminovy and continuing to Čaková. Its total length is 43.2 km. Its course shows that Nové Heřminovy is part of a longer route connecting several named places. Cycling Route No. 6162 is 26.3 km long. Directly compared, it is 16.9 km shorter than No. 6161. The two routes therefore differ in their total length; when planning, you can consider this alongside the local and nature-related themes of each route.

Chapel, Cross and Viewpoint

A single historic monument also adds a specific historical touch: the stone cross beside the Chapel of the Holy Trinity dates from 1733. The “Vyhlídka u Žanety” viewpoint offers a view of Praděd and seating; check the facilities on site. Together with the nature trail stops, these offer another way to explore the municipality, taking in historic sites and a viewpoint alongside the area’s natural attractions.

Practical Planning and Finding a Holiday Apartment

Before setting out on excursions, check local route conditions. České dráhy does not provide services at Nové Heřminovy railway station. If you are planning to travel by train, check the connection before your trip. When looking for a holiday apartment in Nové Heřminovy, you can first consider whether nature, local history or cycling will be the focus of your stay, and then compare the options according to your own requirements.
