Býkov-Láryšov consists of the districts of Býkov and Láryšov, which lie two kilometres apart. This division is important for finding your way around: the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is in Býkov, while historical points of reference are in Láryšov. There are also named hills and routes in different directions. If you would like to combine cultural history with outdoor activity, you can consider the highlights of the two districts separately and plan your day accordingly.

Local history and historic buildings

Býkov was founded in 1238. Local tradition links its name to cattle breeding, which was the settlers’ main source of livelihood at the time of its founding. Láryšov was established later: the village was founded in 1793 on the site of a former pond. The different founding dates give each district its own historical point of reference.

The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is in Býkov, is a cultural monument and was built in 1727. In Láryšov, the chapel dates from 1848 and the fire station from 1921. These buildings add specific dates from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries to the history of the settlements. This means you will encounter different periods in the history of the two districts, rather than a single, continuous period of construction.

Heights and waterways around the districts

Above Býkov, Ovčák hill reaches an elevation of 486 metres. Rybničná, above Láryšov, is 20 metres higher than Ovčák. This comparison connects the two districts through their respective ridges. The waterways also have distinct local connections: Hájnický potok flows through Láryšov, while Černý potok rises in Býkov. The Čížina flows south of Býkov-Láryšov.

The Pochev reservoir lies southeast of Býkov and is used as a natural swimming area. If you would like to swim there, check its current use before making the detour. This allows you to consider the reservoir as a possible swimming stop without confusing it with the streams that flow through or rise in the districts.

Cycling routes and marked hiking trails

Býkov-Láryšov has developed cycling routes. One local cycling route leads west from the municipality into the Hrubý Jeseník area. Another heads east via a border crossing near Úvalno into Poland. The two directions offer different destinations for your cycling trip; the border crossing is near Úvalno.

A green-marked hiking trail leads north from the municipality, passing the Hájnický ponds and the ruins of Šelenburk Castle. The castle ruins lie at an elevation of 423 metres; the trail continues to Krnov. The cycling routes therefore head west and east, while the marked hiking trail runs north. Check the route locally before planning your trip around it.
