Svojek can be explored through two distinctive aspects: the area's hills and valleys, and the traces of its architectural and local history. If you are planning a stay, you can consider these as two different ways to get to know the place. For travel to the area, IDOL bus route 543 is a clearly identified point of reference; cycle route No. 4294 also passes through Svojek. In Svojek and Tample, cultural monuments and sculptures offer further reasons to explore the village and its district.
Hills and Valleys
The area around Svojek consists of gently sloping ridges and valleys along waterways. The elevation difference between these landforms is approximately 80 to 100 metres. The area's average elevation is 450 metres. These figures complement each other: 450 metres describes the average elevation, while the approximate elevation difference reflects the range of relief between the ridges and valleys. Both the overall elevation and the changing landforms are relevant to understanding the surrounding area. If you would also like to take the landscape into account when choosing a place to stay, these details provide a concrete picture of the area: the ridges and valleys alongside waterways together make up its described landscape.
Getting Around by Bus and Bicycle
IDOL bus route 543 runs between Semily, Košťálov, Libštát, Bělá and Svojek. In the Svojek area, the timetable lists the stops “Svojek”, “Svojek, Tample” and “Svojek, rozc. Tample”. The timetable is valid from 14 December 2025 to 12 December 2026; for journeys after that, please check the timetable then in force. As a separate guide for getting around by bicycle, cycle route No. 4294 passes through the municipality. Check the current signage before setting out on a bike ride. This means you can use the timetable to plan a bus journey and the signage to plan a cycling trip.
Local History in Buildings and Monuments
There is a distinction between individual buildings and protected sites. The timber-framed building No. 28 – Alinčovi and the farmstead No. 33 – Prášilovi are immovable cultural monuments. House No. 35 – Flajšrovi offers a different perspective on local history: it is located in the village centre on a street and was formerly a mill, later a blacksmith's forge. The protected site around this house includes not only the building but also part of the embankment of a former pond, part of the surrounding stone wall, a well and the enclosed plots belonging to the site.
The Chapel of St Anthony links religious use with its history: it was built with the support of Antonín Dejmek and consecrated in 1939; services are held there occasionally. The statue of St Wenceslas stands beside the former school, now used as a cultural centre. In 1999, the statue was restored and treated to protect it against the effects of the weather. In Tample, a district belonging to Svojek, the Calvary sculpture is located below the kindergarten. The chapel, statue and sculpture offer different ways to explore local history and the places within the municipality.
An Annual Event
A traditional firefighters' ball is held in Svojek every year. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the specific date for the year in question.
