Harrachov can be explored through a wide range of topics: glassmaking, forestry and hunting, mining, beekeeping and pond life. There is also the Mumlavský Waterfall and facilities for winter sports. This variety gives you concrete points to consider when deciding which aspects of a destination matter for your stay.

Glassmaking History, Forest and Mining

The Harrachov Glass Museum presents a historically and technologically cohesive collection of historic glassware produced by the Harrachov glassworks. It documents more than 300 years of glassmaking in Nový Svět and comprises more than 5,000 exhibits. Two points of reference are worth noting: the long history of production and the size of the collection.

The Šindelka exhibition is open to visitors interested in forestry and hunting. It includes a winter enclosure for wildlife and 32 taxidermied animals. Alongside glassmaking, it brings forest and hunting into focus as distinct topics.

The Šindelka Harrachov Information Centre sells maps and guidebooks for the Giant Mountains and recommends excursion routes as well as other exhibitions and museums of KRNAP. If you would like to use this service to help you find your way around, check the opening hours in advance; visitor arrangements may vary.

At the Harrachov Mining Museum, you can see mining tools and equipment, ore from the local deposit area, and preserved mining machinery from the 20th century. The museum includes an underground tour tunnel approximately 1,000 metres long. Its average temperature is 7 to 9 °C—a useful detail when planning what to wear for your visit.

Nature Trails and the Outdoors

Information panels on the Včelí Nature Trail explain the lives of bees and beekeepers. Beehives containing live bees are located along the entire route; their arrangement follows the historical development of beekeeping. The trail thus combines information about bees with the history of beekeeping.

The Rybárna Nature Trail offers a different topic. It leads through the picturesque Anenské Valley to the site where Count Jan Nepomuk Harrach founded a trout farm. Interactive wooden panels explain which living creatures inhabit the pond and its surroundings. At the same time, Rybárna offers a peaceful walk along the ponds of Harrachov that even very young children can manage. Unlike the Včelí Trail, its focus is on pond life and the history of trout farming rather than bees and beekeeping.

The Mumlavský Waterfall is a natural attraction in Harrachov, 1.5 kilometres from the town centre. This distance helps you include it as a separate stop when planning your time in town.

Winter Sports and Cable Car

The Mammoth Ski Jump K180 is one of the six largest ski jumps in the world and hosts World Cup ski flying competitions. The cross-country ski area includes a 2.2-kilometre circuit that is groomed, artificially snowed and homologated for professional sport. The two facilities represent different aspects of winter sports: ski flying from a large hill and a groomed course in the cross-country ski area.

The Harrachov cable car is also available to visitors all year round. Check the seasonal timetable before your trip so that you can plan accordingly.
