The Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise passes through Morcinov. The network of paths was established from the late 1930s onwards by linking existing paths and marking them uniformly as a single route. The hiking options around Morcinov vary in their starting points, routes, and distances. When looking for a holiday apartment, it may therefore help to decide on your planned outing first: will Tábor be the main destination, a circular route, or a longer section of the Golden Trail?

Marked paths to Tábor

The outing to Tábor starts in Lomnice nad Popelkou and initially follows green markings to Popelka. From there, it follows red markings through Morcinov and Košov to Tábor. The route continues to Vrch Tábor and then returns to Lomnice nad Popelkou. Red markings point the way back from the observation tower to Lomnice. This makes it possible to identify the outing by its intermediate stops and trail markings, rather than focusing only on Tábor as the destination.

Another option is an approximately one-hour walk starting in Košov. From there, a path marked in yellow, blue, and green leads uphill; the Morcinov holiday settlement lies in a small valley below. The time estimate is approximate, and trail conditions should be checked locally. The starting point, markings, and Morcinov’s position below the path give this walk its own route among the hiking options.

Circular route or longer trail

A circular route published in 2025 passes through Košov, Kozlov, Morcinov, and the source of the Cidlina and is 8 km long. Here, the distance is the main consideration. By contrast, the walk from Košov is described by its approximate duration. This distinction helps with planning: the distance of a circular route and the time estimate for a walk answer different questions and should not be equated.

For a longer hike, a 26.5 km section of the Golden Trail runs from Kozákov through Morcinov and Košov to Jičín. Together with the 8 km circular route, this section illustrates the considerable range of distances available. The routes also differ: the circular route includes Košov, Kozlov, Morcinov, and the source of the Cidlina, while the longer section connects Kozákov and Jičín via Morcinov and Košov. This lets you compare the options by route type and distance.

Geology at Ředice u Morcinova

The geological site Ředice u Morcinova lies southwest of Lomnice nad Popelkou. It is registered as a site of geological interest and is part of the Bohemian Paradise National Geopark. Its geological description mentions weathered amygdaloidal andesitoid, as well as chalcedony, bluish agate, quartz druses, and analcime. Ředice u Morcinova thus offers a specific geological site with named rocks and minerals, a different perspective from planning a route to Tábor or along the Golden Trail. Those who include geology in their trip planning can consider this alongside the hikes.

Views and protected landscape

Smetanova vyhlídka lies between Rváčov and Morcinov. Further afield, a walk across the Ředice Plateau offers views over northern Bohemia, including the Bohemian Paradise, the Jizera Mountains, and the Krkonoše Mountains. These viewpoints and landscape features extend beyond the immediate choice of hiking route.

Near Kozlov, the castle ruins are part of the Cidlinský hřeben Natural Monument. The protected area includes a forest complex stretching from Peklovsi to Paseky, with a notable herb layer and the largest population of wood ants in the Podkrkonoší region. This protected landscape adds a distinct natural focus to the geological site and marked trails. When planning, you can therefore choose different priorities: select a hike by its markings and distance, or explore the region’s geological and landscape features.
