In Mricna, nature trails explore a range of topics: one focuses on local history, while others share information about animals, plants and natural phenomena. Along the way, you’ll also find views of the Krkonoše Mountains and historic sites in the village. This lets you get to know Mricna from many different angles rather than focusing on just one subject. The nature trails are accessible on foot, by bicycle and with a pushchair.

Choose a nature trail to suit your interests

The red nature trail offers views of Mricna and the Krkonoše Mountains from the upper edge of the village. Its focus is the history of the municipality, significant events, buildings, notable people and associations; it also covers sights in the mountains. It’s particularly well suited to a visit that takes in local history as well as the landscape.

Other trails have their own distinct themes. The yellow nature trail leads from behind the swimming pool towards Strážník and covers domestic and wild animals, insects, birds, fish and amphibians. The green trail runs towards Delišov and Strážník; its topics range from plants, fruits and herbs to trees, crops and minerals. If you’re more interested in natural phenomena and features, you’ll find them on the blue nature trail, which runs through the forest towards the airfield.

The trails’ themes are easy to distinguish: the red trail combines views with local and mountain history, while the yellow and green trails focus on animals and plants, respectively. The blue trail highlights natural features. Benches, play elements, and educational and discovery quizzes complement the nature trails. A green-and-yellow loop leads to the Večerníček swing and also offers views of the Krkonoše Mountains.

Local history at the church, statue and archaeological site

The Church of Saint Catherine was built in 1716; its tower was completed in 1787 with an ornate dome and lantern. The tower houses a bell cast in 1484 for the church in Mricna. The bell, the church building and the tower, completed later, represent different periods in the village’s history. A concert is held in the church every autumn. As event plans can change, it’s a good idea to check the dates before your visit.

A statue of Saint Wenceslas, consecrated in 1909, stands in the village centre. Another historic trace is the 14th-century Smiřično fortification site, an archaeological site. Jan Buchar is also part of local history: he was born in Mricna, was regarded as an expert on the Krkonoše Mountains, and worked tirelessly to promote tourism and skiing there.

The Olšina Valley and practical tips

Mricna lies in the picturesque foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains, in the valley of the Olšina stream. The stream flows through the village and joins the Jizera in Peřimov. The landscape and nature trails offer different perspectives: the trails focus on knowledge and themes that vary by colour, while the viewpoints look out over Mricna and the mountains.

The swimming pool grounds include a freely accessible multi-purpose sports court. There is also fitness equipment, a workout area, a children’s climbing structure and air trampolines. The facilities’ availability may change, so check before your visit. For a meal, Hospoda Buranka is open at weekends. It serves simple home-style cooking, chilled Plzeň and Radegast beer, and homemade lemonades. As opening hours may change, it’s best to check them in advance.

Whether you’re interested in nature trails, local history or mountain views, the different themes give you practical ideas for planning your stay in Mricna. When looking for a holiday rental, you can also consider which of these discoveries matter most for your trip.
