Hrádek nad Nisou cannot be reduced to a single historical period. Baroque architecture, a Neo-Gothic church and older traces in the street layout mark different points in time. The area also has the Brána Trojzemí Museum, as well as routes and natural attractions nearby. This makes it easy to plan a trip that balances local history, culture and nature.

Traces in Horní náměstí

Glass panels in Horní náměstí offer a view into a well that is at least 400 years old. Sections of historic paved roads, uncovered during archaeological surveys, can also be seen in the square. Together, they connect a view into a well with visible traces of earlier roads: two different starting points for exploring the town’s history.

Churches with different architectural styles

The Catholic Church of sv. Bartoloměje is one of the most significant Baroque buildings in the tripoint area. Its vaults are a distinctive feature: they were added between 1764 and 1766 and are completely covered with frescoes. The dates refer to the added vaults. The Protestant Chrám Pokoje, also called the Church of Peace, was built in the early 20th century in the Neo-Gothic style, with Neo-Renaissance elements. In addition to its religious use, it is occasionally used as a gallery. The churches thus offer contrasting architectural styles: Baroque on one side, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance on the other.

The history of the Grösselova Chapel

The Grösselova Chapel is considered a valuable monument from the late phase of the early Baroque period. The townsman and carter Christoph Grössel built it with his wife Elisabeth in 1697. It stands on the corner of Žitavská and Nádražní streets. Its construction date, builders and location each give the chapel a specific historical connection.

Museum and culture in the tripoint area

The Brána Trojzemí Museum dedicates its exhibitions to the history of the tripoint area. The building also houses an information centre and a multifunctional hall where film screenings can be held. Brána Trojzemí also showcases artists from the tripoint area. Alongside the historical perspective, the region’s artists provide another cultural focus.

Named routes and natural attractions

The Na Trojmezí excursion runs from Grabštejn to Hrádek nad Nisou via either the yellow- or green-marked route. Another point of reference is cycle route No. 3039: it is also called Pašerácká and is now listed as Nová hřebenovka. The different names refer to the same cycle route, while the yellow and green markings indicate the two options for the Na Trojmezí excursion.

Nearby, Popova skála is a prominent rock formation and viewpoint in the Lusatian Mountains above Hrádek nad Nisou. From there, you can see three countries. The Mokřady u Kristýny wetlands offer a different kind of landscape: they lie among the small wooded areas between the tripoint and Lake Kristýna, are home to interesting aquatic animals and form a peaceful oasis for observant visitors. The viewpoint and wetlands thus represent different aspects of nature in the area.

Plan water activities

There is a boat rental at Kristýna; availability may vary by season. You can canoe on the Nisa from Machnín to the German town of Ostritz. If you are planning water activities, note the distinction between these two details: the rental is at Kristýna, while the named canoe route follows the Nisa from Machnín to Ostritz.
