A Baroque pilgrimage complex and open plateaus shape Hlavice in different ways. The group of buildings around St. Linhart reflects the local pilgrimage history; meadows, fields and valleys give the landscape its contours. A blue-marked hiking trail and a cycling route also pass through the village, with clearly distinct markings and connection points.

Pilgrimage History and Baroque Architecture

The Baroque pilgrimage complex comprises more than just St. Linhart Church: it also includes a rectory, a granary and a statue of St. Linhart. The present-day large church was built between 1748 and 1759 at the highest point in Hlavice. Its construction period and location give the church a clear historical and topographical context.

The pilgrimage history has a specific starting point: processions following the animal epidemic of 1747 laid the foundations for pilgrimages in Hlavice. Construction of the present-day church began the following year. The processions and the construction of the church therefore took place close together in time, but mark different stages in local history.

Another Baroque statue in Hlavice depicts St. John of Nepomuk. It complements the connection to St. Linhart with another named saint in the area's religious art.

Plateaus, Valleys and Views

Deep, picturesque valleys of the Malá Mohelka and Zábrdka rivers border Hlavice to the southeast and west. In the center of the area are open, treeless plateaus with meadows and fields, crossed by smaller valleys. The landscape therefore varies by location and scale: deep river valleys frame the area, while smaller valleys divide the open uplands in the interior.

From Hlavice, there are wide-ranging views of the Ještěd Ridge, Český ráj and Bezděz. The landscape extends from small-scale valleys to distant panoramas; both scales are part of the area's character.

Hiking and Cycling Routes Through Hlavice

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Hlavice between Hrubý Lesnov and Vrtky, along the Liberec–Čertova zeď–Mnichovo Hradiště route. Cycling route T 3048 passes through Hlavice between Vrtky and Cetenov, continues toward Na Pince and connects to route T 25. The two routes can be distinguished by their different details: the hiking trail is identified by its marking and route name, while the cycling route is identified by its number and connection points.

Trail markings and cycling route alignments can change. Check the current route before setting out.

Kristiánka in Lesnovek

The pilgrimage site of Kristiánka in Lesnovek includes a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, dating from 1845. The water from the Kristiánka spring near Lesnovek was also once considered to have healing properties. The date places the statue of the Virgin Mary in the history of the pilgrimage site; the water's reputation for healing belongs to an earlier belief.
