The Jeřice flows through Nová Ves and joins the Nisa in Chrastava. The origins of the village are also linked to this river: Nová Ves probably developed through the gradual settlement of the area along the Jeřice. The river course and settlement history thus provide a geographical and historical introduction to the village. The church, Stations of the Cross, and remains of the former manor house add concrete architectural and cultural evidence from different periods to this picture.

Church and Architectural History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in 1616–1617. Inside is a Renaissance baptismal font on a stone base; the structure above it is made of wood and is Baroque. These two distinct stylistic periods come together in this single object and can be attributed to different parts: the font is Renaissance, while the wooden structure above it is Baroque. This distinction gives the church a specific art-historical significance without assigning the entire building wholesale to a single period.

There is an archaeological find area around the church. Finds have been documented there, or are expected on the basis of well-founded assumptions. The village’s historical significance therefore extends beyond the church building: its surroundings are also part of Nová Ves’s archaeological heritage.

Stations of the Cross and Cemetery Wall

The Stations of the Cross are set into the wall of the former cemetery. The stone wall around the old cemetery is a protected monument. The stations feature late Baroque or Rococo ornamentation, suggesting that they were probably created in the second half of the 18th century. This is an architectural estimate, not an exact year. The Stations of the Cross add another example of religious art and local history to the picture of the church.

Traces of the Former Manor House

Another chapter of the village’s history is associated with the former manor house. After it was demolished following a fire in 1980, only remains of the surrounding masonry survived. The distinction between the manor house and the church and Stations of the Cross is important: what remains of the manor house is masonry, not a complete building. Nová Ves thus offers architectural evidence that differs not only in age but also in its present-day form.
