The stone Královka lookout tower is 23.5 metres high; 102 steps lead to the top. From there, the view extends over the Jizerské hory, the Krkonoše Mountains, Český ráj, the Ještědský hřbet and Jablonec nad Nisou. This makes the viewpoint a prominent starting point for discovering Johannesberg I. Isergebirge and its varied options for a stay.

Viewpoints and hikes

The viewpoints differ in their form: Královka is a stone tower, Trniště a rocky viewpoint with a viewing platform and railing. Skalní hřib, in turn, is a granite rock formation above Loučná, to the left of the road to Jindřichov. These specific features help distinguish the different places rather than treating them as one single viewpoint.

Janov nad Nisou is a good starting point for hikes in the Jizerské hory mountains. If you are interested in an organised running or hiking event, „Janovských 11 a 19 km“ offers a choice between an 11 km run and a 19 km hike. The choice therefore concerns both the distance and the type of activity. The event takes place on the last Saturday in October each year.

Cross-country and downhill skiing

Two different winter activities are available in Hrabětice. From Janov nad Nisou, you can join the Jizerská magistrála cross-country ski trail there. Hrabětice is also an access point to the Jizerská magistrála and has parking for 110 vehicles. The Severák ski resort for downhill skiing is also located in Hrabětice. The cross-country trail and ski resort offer different activities, so plan according to which one you want to focus on.

Churches and historical details

The Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele church in Janov nad Nisou was built from 1800 to 1811 to plans by the Liberec builder Würfl. Inside is a neo-Renaissance painted decoration by E. Meininger dating from 1883. During Noc kostelů, the church opens to the public in June with an accompanying programme. The construction and painted decoration belong to different periods; the dates provide a clear historical context for a visit to the church.

The Kostel svatého Josefa church stands in Loučná. It was built in 1914 and 1915 to plans by the Jablonec architect Robert Hemmrich. Its features include six stained-glass windows with neo-Renaissance ornamental frames. The Křížová cesta also has its own chronology: it was built on Josef Klamt’s property in 1878 and consecrated in 1903. The construction and consecration dates are separate.

Events and other activities

The Janovský jarmark takes place every year in June and features traditional food and handmade goods. It offers a different focus from Noc kostelů, when the Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele church opens in June with an accompanying programme. If you are planning to attend events during your trip, check the specific dates. In October, „Janovských 11 a 19 km“ offers a choice between a run and a hike.

Another activity in Janov nad Nisou is the bobsleigh track. Its special feature is a carousel on which the bobsleigh rotates 450 degrees. Together with the hikes, viewpoints, churches and winter activities, it offers a range of different reasons to travel, without restricting you to just one kind of stay.

Choose accommodation to suit your reason for travelling

This lets you consider the activities that matter to you when choosing accommodation, rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all itinerary. Also plan around the relevant event dates, especially if you want to attend the annual fair in June or the event held on the last Saturday in October.
