Trebendorf (Třebeň) reveals its architectural history across several layers: the parish church of St. Lawrence combines Late Gothic origins with a later Baroque redesign. Half-timbered farmsteads in Nový Drahov and traces of the Cheb type on individual houses add to this picture. The village can therefore be viewed not through a single building alone; its different buildings and periods each provide their own focus.

Arriving by train

Třebeň railway station is on line 146 between Cheb and Luby u Chebu and is part of the IDOK integrated transport system. Train services and accessibility may change, so check the timetable and any access requirements important to you before your trip.

Church, farmsteads and village character

St. Lawrence across several building phases

The parish church of St. Lawrence was built in 1495 and extended in the following years. A Late Gothic church dating from the late 15th century, it was sensitively redesigned in the Baroque style between 1758 and 1783. Its architecture cannot therefore be reduced to a single style: both its Late Gothic origins and later Baroque alterations are part of its history. Visitors interested in historic architecture can distinguish two successive periods in a single church building.

Marian column and rural farmstead

A three-metre-high Marian column stands in Třebeň beyond the railway line. It was completely rebuilt in 1840. Houses at current numbers 1, 3, 15 and 19 also bear traces of the Cheb type of vernacular architecture. The house numbers provide specific points of reference for these architectural features in the village.

A rural farmstead in the north-western part of the municipality dates from the first half of the 19th century. Four buildings—a dwelling house, barn, outbuilding and shed—stand around a rectangular courtyard with a gate. The layout makes the ensemble recognisable as a farmstead: not only the dwelling house, but also the various outbuildings form part of the overall design described here.

Half-timbered farmsteads in Nový Drahov

Nový Drahov is a district of the municipality of Třebeň, known for its half-timbered farmsteads and a village conservation area since 1995. Here, the focus is not the architectural history of a single church building, but the character of a village with half-timbered farmsteads. Visitors can visit Mr Werner’s pottery workshop at one of the farmsteads. If you would like to plan a workshop visit, check in advance whether a visit is possible on your chosen date.

Soos: nature trail, geology and museum

In the Soos Nature Reserve, you can explore part of the area along a signposted nature trail with explanatory information. Check the route details before your trip. One geological feature is the diatomite shield, formed from deposits of diatom shells on the bed of a former salt lake. Its formation connects it with the history of the landscape: the salt lake and its deposits explain how the diatomite shield was formed.

At the entrance to the nature reserve is a museum featuring models of prehistoric lizards and exhibitions on the palaeontological and geological history of the Earth and the Cheb region. Part of the Soos animal rescue station is open to the public. In the accessible section, visitors can learn about the station’s work and the animal species it cares for. The museum and animal rescue station have different focuses: Earth and regional history on the one hand, and the work with the animal species in their care on the other.
