Thurn combines two distinct highlights for a stay: the long-distance Cycle Route 604 and historic buildings. The route provides specific information on its length, difficulty rating and suitable bicycle type; the buildings are notable for their dates, architectural styles and connections to regional culture. If you are weighing up outdoor activities and local history for your trip, you can consider these topics separately and choose the focus of your plans.

Cycle Route 604: Length, Suitability and Route

The long-distance Cycle Route 604 is 28 km long, rated easy and suitable for road bikes. It runs through the valley of the Šitbořský potok in the Cheb Basin. The stated length, difficulty rating and bicycle type answer different planning questions: you can compare the distance with the stated difficulty rating and consider whether you will be riding a road bike.

The route passes through Thurn and continues to Tuřany Farm, about one kilometre beyond the village. The two distances have different reference points: 28 km is the length of the route; the approximate one kilometre describes how far beyond the village the farm is located. This makes it possible to distinguish the total route length from the farm’s specific location along the route.

Regional Bus Service

Regional bus route 410110 connects Thurn with Cheb and Sokolov via Nebanice, Odrava, Okrouhlá, Kynšperk nad Ohří and Libavské Údolí. The route is listed with these stops in the 2026 regional timetable. Check the current timetable before travelling so you can plan your journey for your travel date. The intermediate stops give an idea of the route the bus takes between Thurn, Cheb and Sokolov.

Farmhouse No. 3 and the Architecture of a Cheb Farmstead

Farmhouse No. 3 in Thurn dates from 1854 and retains the four basic components of a Cheb farmstead: a dwelling, granary, barn and stables. This layout makes it clear that the farmstead is a complex of several buildings. The dwelling is described in more detail: its ground floor is built using log construction, with a half-timbered upper storey above. The richly detailed, checkerboard-patterned gable adds a geometric feature to the design. The farmstead therefore offers two aspects to explore: the composition of the complex and the construction and design of the dwelling.

Chapel, Monument and Regional Culture

The chapel in Thurn is one of the village’s oldest and most interesting monuments and dates from before 1782. As a religious building, it has a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided termination at the western end. In contrast to Farmhouse No. 3, the focus here is on the form of a single religious building; at the farmstead, several buildings and the construction of the dwelling shape its architectural character.

Lipoltov is also part of the municipality of Thurn. There, Farmhouse No. 1 is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 17495/4-147. This adds another named heritage site within the municipality to the buildings in Thurn.

The revived Masopust processions in Tuřany are part of the traditional folk culture of the Karlovy Vary Region. Alongside the dated buildings and the chapel, they offer another connection to the region’s history and culture. Architecture and folk culture provide different perspectives on Thurn and its local traditions.
