Asch offers two distinct ways to plan your stay: culture at the Muzeum Aš and the Church of St. Nicholas, and outdoor activities on Háj Hill. The wooded hill is home to a sports complex and the three-kilometre Lesmistrova Trail; the Háj Observation Tower stands at its summit. This lets you decide in advance whether to focus more on the collection and architecture or on the route and sports.

Collection and architecture

The ethnographic collection of the Muzeum Aš is displayed in the former town library and fire station at Poštovní náměstí. The two buildings, with their former functions, are therefore part of the visit. As the exhibition layout may change, it is advisable to check the current arrangement before your visit.

Another architectural highlight is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas in Asch. The single-nave church was built between 1867 and 1872 in the Neo-Renaissance style. The single nave and cruciform ground plan describe different aspects: the layout of the church interior and its overall shape. The building also has a 48-metre-high entrance tower. The construction period and style place the church in its historical context, while the ground plan and tower height are specific features of its architecture.

Activities on Háj Hill

The wooded Háj Hill in the Ašský výběžek is 757 metres high. The stone Háj Observation Tower, formerly called Bismarckova, stands at its summit. From the top, you can enjoy sweeping views across the landscape. If climbing the tower is important to your visit, check in advance whether it is open to visitors.

The sports complex on Háj Hill offers football, volleyball, basketball, tennis and nohejbal. There is also a six-metre-high climbing wall for beginners and experienced climbers. This means individual sports and a climbing option are available alongside the longer route on the hill. A track around the sports complex is used for skating and running, and for cross-country skiing in winter. If you are planning to ski, this seasonal aspect is especially important; conditions may vary.

The Lesmistrova Trail is a three-kilometre route on Háj Hill. Its features include playful challenges on information boards, wooden obstacles and balancing elements. If you would rather focus on a route with challenges and activity elements than on a single sport, you can compare this trail with the facilities at the sports complex. The stated length gives you a concrete measure for planning your day; the boards and features shape the experience along the way. When planning how long it will take, consider not only the three kilometres but also your own pace and any stops at the boards, obstacles and balancing elements.
