Cycling: Themed Route and Forest Track

Cycling and village history give Schaub (Pšov) two clear themes for a stay. The themed one-way route Křížková cesta starts in the square in Žlutice, is marked with a logo, and runs via Pšov and Močidlec to Záhořice. Check the route signs before setting off. The Toužim–Rabštejn nad Střelou cycling route passes through Pšov towards the railway tracks, then continues onto a forest track. After the tracks, the route climbs gently towards Vladař. For this route too, check the signage and surface conditions before setting off; trail conditions can change.

Another factor to consider when choosing a route is National Cycle Route No. 35. Its 37 km section runs from Valeč via Chyše and Žlutice to Manětín and includes the Žlutice–Pšov–Manětín connection. A regional description, last updated on 13 February 2013, rates the section as moderate and notes that it follows paved roads. It is worth checking the current difficulty rating and road conditions before setting out.

The three routes offer different planning considerations: Křížková cesta combines a thematic focus with a named sequence of places; after the railway tracks, the Toužim–Rabštejn nad Střelou route continues onto a forest track with a gentle climb; and the 37 km section of National Cycle Route No. 35 adds the distance, difficulty rating, and road surface for comparison. This makes it possible to choose based on thematic interest, terrain, or the stated route length.

Church and Memorial History

The Church of the Sacred Heart was built in 1914, and its interior fittings from the time of construction have been preserved. The construction date and fittings therefore belong to the same period: the historical connection encompasses both the building and its preserved furnishings. The church stands in the western part of Pšov’s expansive village green, directly below the bus stop. Its location anchors it to the village green and provides a specific landmark in the village. If you are planning to travel by public transport, check the current connections.

In the surroundings of Pšov, northeast of the village, a freely accessible sandstone statue of Saint Florian stands at the junction of the road to Kolešov and the road to Kobylé. Anton and Elisabetha Melcher had it erected in 1815. In 2011–2012, the statue underwent extensive restoration as part of the creation of a new educational trail. The two dates mark different phases: 1815 is the year it was erected, and 2011–2012 the period of its later restoration.

Křížková cesta also has its own restoration history: along the themed route, 22 statues or crosses and a dovecote were restored. This combination of sculptural works and a dovecote gives the route a specific connection to historic monuments in addition to its one-way layout, and shows the range of elements that were restored.
