In Nejdek, short circular routes, longer hikes and traces of the town’s history lie side by side. When planning your stay, it’s worth choosing first by route length and theme: one trail leads to places associated with well-known figures, while others explore the landscape, geology or the town’s surroundings. This lets you decide how to spend your time here before looking for suitable hotels for your stay in Nejdek.

Nature Trails and Hikes by Length and Theme

The “Vysoká Štola – Oldřichov” nature trail is more than 9 kilometres long and has nine stops covering history, geology, mining, old routes and the character of the landscape. It starts behind the Nejdek winter sports stadium, passes through Pozorka, Vysoká Štola and Oldřichov, and returns to Nejdek through the Oldřichov Valley. Parking is available by the football stadium and the winter sports stadium. As parking rules may change, check the conditions before your trip.

A shorter route with a different focus is the 2.6-kilometre, red-marked circular trail “Po stopách slavných nejdeckých osobností” through the town centre. It leads to memorial stones, plaques on the birthplaces of notable figures, and other places associated with people from Nejdek. These include the birthplace of actor Vladimír Ráž, a viewpoint overlooking Nejdek, and the place from which J. W. Goethe drew the Nejdek tower. The circular route thus connects individual stops in the town’s history along a single path.

The 5-kilometre “Děti dětem” nature trail runs through the southern part of Nejdek. At eight stops, it introduces the plants, animals, rocks and population of the Nejdek region. Other options include the 5.4-kilometre “Křížovým vrchem” circular route, which starts right in Nejdek, and the 10.2-kilometre “Přes Nejdecký Špičák k Lesíku” hike. The latter leads from Nejdek via Nejdecký Špičák to Lesík; you can swim in the Lesík reservoir along the way.

The “Nejdecká křížová cesta” Stations of the Cross can also be described in terms of specific route details: it is 1,600 metres long, climbs 110 metres and includes 14 stone chapels. Along the way, there are views of Nejdek’s historic district and the deep Rolava Valley. The Stations of the Cross therefore differ from the nature trails and longer hikes both in length and in their series of chapel stops.

Views, Architecture and Town History

The “Rozhledna Pajndl” observation tower is open year-round. From Nejdek, you can reach it on foot in about two hours via the green-marked hiking trail. As access details may change, check them before your trip. Public access to the “Hradní věž” is possible by prior arrangement with its owner, the dean of St. Martin’s Church.

Different traces of history meet in the townscape. The “Evangelický kostel Vykupitele” church was completed in 1904 in the Neo-Gothic style. The church grounds, including the Art Nouveau rectory, have been a protected cultural monument since 2007. Outside the town centre, the pseudo-Gothic “Kaple v Suché” chapel was built in 1885 near a farmstead on the raised bank of a rural pond. The “Kašna Rolávka” fountain depicts the Rolava River; its original riverbed is paved with light-coloured river stones.

The Nejdek Museum is closed while the building is being renovated and a new permanent exhibition is being prepared. Check its current opening status before visiting. If you are considering a train journey, the “Krušnohorský Semmering” line runs from Nejdek via Nové Hamry to Pernink. Over 15 kilometres, it climbs 360 metres and includes three tunnels and the Nové Hamry loop. If you would like to include the railway in your plans, check the timetable.
