Anyone planning a stay in Janessen and looking to combine cycling with architectural and industrial history will find several specific points of interest. Two cycling routes, each 11 km long, differ in their descriptions of their course, surface and traffic. There is also the viaduct near Jenišov, the centrally located Chapel of St. Anne and the Velká loketská výsypka, which spans several municipalities. Depending on your interests, you can focus on a cycling route, a single structure or a larger reclaimed landscape.

Cycling: two routes with different descriptions

Route 2227 K.Vary–Jenišov–Chodov is 11 km long and runs through Jenišov via Jetelová and Pod Rybníkem. Route 2228 Stará Role–Jenišov–Loket is also 11 km long; it too runs through Pod Rybníkem and Jetelová. Both routes therefore follow the same streets in Jenišov, but lead to different endpoints. Route 2227 uses paved paths with asphalt and gravel surfaces. Route 2228 runs mostly away from motor traffic; traffic is heavier only between Loučky and Loket. If the surface matters to you, the description of Route 2227 provides specific information; for Route 2228, it is the traffic conditions on the section mentioned.

The route descriptions were last updated in 2013. Check current conditions before setting out; traffic conditions on Route 2228 may change.

Velká loketská výsypka: cycling routes across a larger landscape

The reclaimed Velká loketská výsypka is an external spoil heap from the Družba brown coal opencast mine. It stretches between Nové Sedlo, Mírová, Jenišov and Hory, forming a landscape that spans several municipalities. There are 14 km of marked cycling routes and seven rest areas on the site. For cyclists, this offers a different scale from the two individually named 11 km routes: the focus is on a larger area with marked paths and several rest areas. Check the current condition of the paths before setting out.

The viaduct: railway engineering beside the millrace

The stone arch of the viaduct near Jenišov crosses the Chodovský potok immediately beside the millrace of a former mill. The structure has served continuously since the Buštěhrad Railway was built in 1870, without major repairs. It is the largest structure within the cadastral area of the municipality of Jenišov. The stream, millrace and viaduct give the place a specific historical context: alongside its railway history, it is also the site of a former mill. This makes the viaduct a striking example of the area's architectural and industrial heritage.

The Chapel of St. Anne in the centre of Jenišov

The Neoclassical Chapel of St. Anne stands on the village square in the centre of Jenišov; its exterior areas are accessible. It was built in 1849 to a design by mason Franz Gelinka, on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. The chapel was fully reconstructed from 1991 to 1993. Its history can thus be traced through several stages: the wooden predecessor was followed by the Neoclassical building, and a comprehensive reconstruction came later. Visitors interested in local architecture will find a structure whose design, predecessor and renovation are each specifically documented.
