At the entrance to Babiččino údolí stands a figurative memorial to Božena Němcová; several hiking trails also pass through Zlíč or its surroundings. This places cultural and historical sites alongside specific routes with named waypoints. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary commemorates an event from 1713; hikers can choose between an 8.5 km circuit and other trails associated with the river, bridges, and history.

Memorial, Chapel, and Local History

A figurative memorial to Božena Němcová has stood since 1975 in a park at a crossroads in Zlíč. Its location at the entrance to Babiččino údolí connects the memorial site with the valley. For travellers interested in culture, it is a specific landmark that links local history with a named place of remembrance.

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Zlíč was built in 1714 at the expense of local residents. It followed a plague epidemic that severely affected the local population in 1713. A new Stations of the Cross, with 14 images by Jarmila Zárubová, was installed in the chapel in 2002. Its construction date, historical context, and later addition offer different points of interest for learning about the chapel.

Three services are held there each year, along with the Zlíč pilgrimage and the church consecration festival. These celebrations take place in September, on the Sunday and Monday after 8 September. If you want to plan your stay around them, check the dates before travelling; the schedule may change.

Hiking Trails with Different Waypoints

Hiking Route No. 1 is 8.5 km long and runs from Česká Skalice via Rozkoš, Dubno, and Zlíč, returning to Česká Skalice. From Česká Skalice towards Náchod, it first follows the red-marked route to Autocamping Rozkoš and then turns towards Zlíč. Near Zlíč, it joins a green-marked route at the monument to Božena Němcová and continues over a bridge. This brings the stated circular route and several marked trail sections together. Check trail conditions locally.

Hiking Route No. 3 follows a different course, reaching Zlíč along the Úpa River via the Vilémův Bridge. It then passes the military cemetery from 1866 on its way towards Česká Skalice. These named landmarks distinguish the route from Route No. 1, whose length and course through several places are specified. Check local trail conditions for this route as well.

Near Zlíč, the 7 km Jakub Míla Trail is a circular route through the cultural and natural monuments of Babiččino údolí. It can be reached from the Zlíč bus stop, about 1.5 km away. This approximate distance can help with planning; check current public transport conditions in advance.

The Česká Skalice–Svinišťany–Josefov 1866 Educational Trail includes a station in Zlíč titled “Austrian Left Wing.” The 8 km Babiččino údolí Educational Trail also runs nearby, with 27 stations through a protected area. This offers shorter trail options with a station in town alongside educational trails covering a wider area.
