There are three distinct interests to consider when staying in Mezilesí: cycling a moderate 24-kilometre route, visiting the memorial to Czechoslovak legionnaires, and exploring local history. The second route described is explicitly not suitable for cyclists. It is therefore worth considering the two routes separately and deciding on your preferred focus when planning.

How to Choose the Right Cycling Route

The 24 km “Novoměstsko z rozhledny Na Vartě” route is moderate and suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. It reaches Mezilesí 1 km after Bydlo and then continues along road III/28522 towards Sendraž. If you are looking for a moderate cycling trip, this 24-kilometre route is an option for mountain bikes or trekking bikes. As conditions and signage can change, check both before setting out.

The “Podél Olešenky do Pekla a na sendražskou rozhlednu” route, by contrast, is not suitable for cyclists. It continues from Sendraž along the road to Mezilesí. Important for route planning: the stated 9.5 km marks the arrival in Sendraž, not Mezilesí. If you plan to take this route, do not mistake that route marker for the distance to Mezilesí. Trail conditions may vary; check the route before your trip.

Memorial and Visit

The Památník československých legionářů 1914–1920 in Mezilesí displays uniforms, equipment, personal effects and weapons of Czechoslovak legionnaires in Russia from 1914 to 1920. The collection thus brings together military objects and personal effects. It offers a distinct cultural and historical focus alongside the connections to local history.

Visits are self-guided; visitors can ask questions. If you are planning a visit, check the visiting arrangements before you travel.

Local History Across Several Periods

Mezilesí is first mentioned in written sources on 30 August 1403. In 1757, ten weavers are recorded in the village. More than three centuries separate these dates: one refers to an early written mention, the other to a specific craft in the village’s history.

A stone cross dating from 1840 stands by the road below the inn. Check its condition and access on site.

The years 1403, 1757 and 1840 represent different historical connections in Mezilesí: a written mention, the weaving trade and a stone cross. The museum adds another focus with its collection on Czechoslovak legionnaires in Russia from 1914 to 1920.
