Two dates alone give Horní Radechová a specific historical profile: it was first mentioned in writing in 1402, and by 1560 the village already had 48 house numbers. Named buildings and different route references add to this picture. The village’s history spans an obligation to make payments to the church, farmsteads, and the livelihoods of farming and weaving. For hikers, the routes offer different considerations: one yellow-marked route is described as heading southwest and names three destinations, while the Hronov–Červený Kostelec hiking route via Radechová is rated easy. You can therefore tailor your stay to your historical interests, cultural sites or preferred type of route information.

Local history at two points in time

The first written mention of Horní Radechová dates from 1402. At that time, the community had to pay the chaplain from Náchod to hold Mass. This means the village’s history begins with a specific community obligation: payment for Masses. This early date differs from the later information about house numbers and livelihoods.

By 1560, Horní Radechová already had 48 house numbers, mostly farmsteads. The inhabitants mainly made their living from farming and weaving. The number 48 refers to house numbers, not the population. Together, the two dates show different aspects of community life: in 1402, payment for Masses; in 1560, the structure of the farmsteads and the main livelihoods.

Chapel, bunker and observation tower

The Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius belongs to Horní Radechová and is part of the Roman Catholic parish of Červený Kostelec. If you plan to attend a service, check the schedule separately.

The T-S 2 Studýnka infantry bunker is an immovable cultural monument. It is located in the cadastral area of Horní Radechová, in the locality of Studénky. Both place names are important for identifying its location: Horní Radechová names the cadastral area, while Studénky names the locality.

The Na Signálu observation tower was completed in 2014 and stands at an elevation of 496 m. The year refers to its completion, and the figure to its elevation. The tower, chapel and bunker thus add distinct, clearly identified points of interest to the village’s history.

Routes and destinations

The tourist route junction is in the centre of Horní Radechová, on the main road. A route description last updated on 30 March 2015 specifies that a yellow-marked route heads southwest from there to U Čertoviny, Zábrodí and Špinka. Check the local trail markings before setting out. This is separate from the Hronov–Červený Kostelec hiking route via Radechová, which is rated easy. The practical information differs: the yellow-marked route specifies a direction and destinations, while the hiking route has a difficulty rating.
